WOW,

This review is from: The Secrets of a Fire King (Paperback)
After each story I read, I was overwhelmed with emotion and awe. These stories are amazing and beautiful. Wow is all I can say. I read Kim Edwards' novel Memory Keeper's Daughter and really enjoyed it, but this book of short stories is simply phenomenal for the way it challenged my mind and stirred up emotion inside me that I can't explain. Definately read it!

Astounding,

This was a fantastic collection of stories. The standout one for me was at about page 100, the story of a woman in a SE Asian country who - as a 40-year "veteran" of the ex-pat experience - deigns to share her knowledge and experience with the newcomers... until the day she learns how little she actually knows about the culture in which she uncomfortably resides. Brilliant stuff.

Kim Edwards is clearly an excellent writer with unique stories to tell. Can't wait for her to write another novel.

Ms. Edward's book contains fascinating stories about outsiders in "normal" society. The stories really grab you and you won't be able to easily put the book down.

Kim Edwards is a great story teller until she saved the last, most unrealistic story to tell at the end of the "The Secrets of the Fire King" entitled "The Story of My Life."She creates a terribly unrealistic, unethical character who considers herself "prolife." But any of us who know authentic prolife people know they do not resort to violence or manipulation to get their life affirming message across the abortion industry. Except for a few zealous lunatics, prolife people peacefully and prayerfully stand outside the abortion clinics trying to make sure women know there are other options outside of abortion since we know the abortion industry has broken the law time after time from withholding other options to women. Kim Edwards looks like a fool trying to vilify prolife people as prolife people dedicate their lives to fighting for justice for the unborn baby and the baby's mother and father.
