5.0 out of 5 stars Only relationship book you'll ever need, January 21, 2007
This review is from: Secrets of a Fix-up Fanatic: How to Meet & Marry Your Match (Paperback)
If you've had no luck on the dating scene then this book is for you. It's filled with tips on how to go about finding the right person and going to bars and online dating services are not going to help. Shapiro also focuses on why you need to see how content you are with your own life before you go looking for a relationship. She asks questions that might hit on what you've been trying to avoid-like if you're in debt, not ahppy where your career is going, or just not 100% happy with your circumstances right now. She says if you're in debt and in in a job crisis, why would somebody want to join you in your misery? She hits to the heart of why a lot of relationships fail. I liked her relationship examples too-I either saw myself or my friends in many of the scenerios. I'd definitely recommend this book for singles, but I think it could really benefit people in a relationship as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even if you have a match, this is a TERRIFIC read., December 27, 2006
This review is from: Secrets of a Fix-up Fanatic: How to Meet & Marry Your Match (Paperback)
Shapiro's book goes way beyong the usual advice genre. This is an honest, heartfelt, page-turning offering. Get to the end and your reward is ten years worth of therapy in the guise of a fast-talking, straight-shooting brilliantly written book.I've passed it on to two of my single friends who have told me it already changed their lives (one started to date after a six year hiatus). As for me? Presently not single, I was entertained but more; I walked away with cogent advice for navigating life, even if I have the romantic thing down (for now, at least). What makes this book a break out is that her advice seems to work whether you want a lover, husband or attain a goal, whatever that might be.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Five-Star Fabulous Fix-Up!!!, January 4, 2007
This review is from: Secrets of a Fix-up Fanatic: How to Meet & Marry Your Match (Paperback)
This fantastic book is not only a how-to for finding that perfect someone, it's a step-by-step guide for living a rich life. The author coaches you to ask yourself what's most important to you, and gives you the confidence, courage and push to go out and get it. The book is filled with outrageously fabulous examples of how to navigate fixing yourself and adding spice to your life. Whether you're looking to meet your match or happily attached, this book is the perfect recipe for love, any way you slice it. The one thing to watch for, though, as you're reading, the author's rhythmic voice is so engaging that you may (like me) miss your subway stop or be late for a date!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, A Brilliant New Perspective On Finding Love!, October 20, 2009
This review is from: Secrets of a Fix-up Fanatic: How to Meet & Marry Your Match (Paperback)
I love this book! Sue Shapiro's "Secrets of a Fix-up Fanatic" is a much-needed breath of fresh air in the current dating and relationships literature. After successfully fixing up an unbelievable number of couples, she offers proven firsthand advice on how to work our networks in order to step outside of our dating comfort zones and find the relationship of our dreams. While presenting a seemingly foolproof plan to find love, she also makes many other great points about dating, including her arguments that we must fix ourselves before being fixed up and that single women often sabotage ourselves by being too picky, specific and unrealistic in our romantic expectations. Typical of a Sue Shapiro work, this book is also fun and easy to read and is filled with hysterical anecdotes and tips. It's an inspiration to single people everywhere!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read -- couldn't put it down!, April 11, 2007

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Secrets of a Fix-up Fanatic: How to Meet & Marry Your Match (Paperback)
If you're happily married and picked up Shapiro's new book off your friend's coffee table, you still wouldn't be able to put it down. It sounds cliche, but Shapiro's advice is such a breath of fresh air in a culture all too focused on the superficial and prone to want a quick fix for everything. Shapiro tells us what we sometimes don't want to hear -- fix what's inside, "dig deeper" as she advises her writing students, reassess your values, and get over yourself, first, before you start looking for what you want "out there." While she doesn't mince words and leaves little wiggle room (isn't it enough already that our society is so focused on blame and getting out of commitments?), Shapiro's advice is heartfelt, loving and lighthearted. For example, just when you're in the middle of thinking "how can I ever do this?" out pops a line that will have you laughing hard and feeling positive again. The book is chockful of common sense and concrete examples that ring true. Finally, while Shapiro's book seems more geared to women and men who've been dating awhile and can't "close the deal," I think her book should be required reading for anyone dating at any age!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fresh Approach to an Eternal Question, January 10, 2007
By
This review is from: Secrets of a Fix-up Fanatic: How to Meet & Marry Your Match (Paperback)
Shapiro gives away for free what so many "looking-for-loves" would pay millions for -- answers to how to settle into connubial bliss. If you are single and interested in being coupled, waste no time and try some of her suggestions pronto. What's great is that much of her advice -- connect with older marrieds whose relationships you admire, get some feedback from people you've dated -- is bound to improve your life even if you don't wind up settling down.
