5.0 out of 5 stars Investigative Bibilical jounalism at its best, November 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Secrets of Golgotha: The Lost History of Jesus' Crucifixion (Paperback)
"Secrets of Golgotha" is an facsinating book that sheds light on the exact location where Jesus was crucified and buried. Dr. Martin goes into exhaustive detail about why neither the Church of the Holy Sepluchre or Gordon's Calvary and the Garden Tomb could possibly have been the scenes of the most significant events in human history. Using scriptural evidence (which has been under the noses of theologians for centuries but ignored), archeological findings and historical documentation about Roman and Jewish execution practices, Dr. Martin convincingly pinpoints the locations of the death and resurrection of Christ as having occured at the Southern summit of the Mount of Olives, not the two different areas that Catholics and Protestants have separately believed and disputed. This book is not an iconoclastic work that tries to refute Christ's divinity or his resurrection like so many other recent books have. Dr. Martin is a believer and his eye-opening work of scholarship puts bibical events in their proper historic perspective while stripping away many of the heritical traditions that have been handed down through the centuries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ever wonder if Jesus really was the Messiah?, December 19, 1999
This review is from: Secrets of Golgotha: The Lost History of Jesus' Crucifixion (Paperback)
Although the intention of this book is to argue a particular theory of the location of the Crucifixion of Christ, it contains much, much more. This is an essential book for a person wondering about who Jesus was, whether he could really have been the Messiah of the Jews, and whether any other "higher authority" such as the Diety Himself may not have left a witness to Jesus's authority and significance in the historical records of the Jews in the generation after Jesus. Buy this book, read it carefully, and use a highlighter pen to mark key texts for swift recovery later. In terms of content unavailable elsewhere (or at least hard-to-find) this book is worth about four times its price.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive story of the death of Jesus, June 28, 2004

This review is from: Secrets of Golgotha: The Lost History of Jesus' Crucifixion (Paperback)
I have never been too interested in Holy Land archeology or trying to identify places and times and people involved but this book has completely changed my perspective. After a marathon reading session (I couldn't put it down!) I found myself poring over old and new maps of Jerusalem trying to picture the facts as Dr Martin presents them.

His conclusions (and there are more than one!) are startling and fascinating at the same time. He proves in the most scholarly fashion the location of Jesus death and resurrection beyond any shadow of a doubt and draws wide-ranging and even cosmic conclusions and reasons of why this had to be.

People of all faiths -- even Jews, Muslims and non-believers -- will find this book fascinating and compelling. He has done extensive research which substantiates every point he makes.

This book is well worth every penny and will give you much to think about in connection with this most important event.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone needs to read this book!, December 2, 2006

This review is from: Secrets of Golgotha: The Lost History of Jesus' Crucifixion (Paperback)
This book is amazing in-depth account of Jesus and the site he died at. But, not only that, the book goes into great detal about the temple, and the Garden of Eden. Also what was in the temple at the time, and what did it all mean. This book shows clearly that the site most Christians go to for worshipping Jesus in Jerusalem is the wrong site, and is not even supported by the ancient church historians at the time of its dediction. Anyways, check out this book it's hard to put down, and very good read that will keep your thinking.

Think Mel Gibson’s movie “Passion” was too much to bear… do you think maybe he overdid the blood and guts portrayed in the movie?

Think again.

After reading Chapter 22 in this book I was floored.

I sat with tears in my eyes when I realized, for the first time, how much Jesus really suffered for us. It is truly unfathomable.

The author paints a picture backed by biblical scripture that is irrefutable and devastating at the same time.

Anyone who claims to be a Christian NEEDS to read this book, no matter what denomination they belong too.

It is important for us to remember daily what was done at the Cross of us… so the next time the devil points an accusing finger at us… we point to the Cross and KNOW the price has been FULLY paid.

I GIVE ALL PRAISE TO JESUS THE CHRIST.

There are also many other things in this book that make it worth the read… it is truly an eye opener in many areas.

I have all of Ernest L. Martin’s books and I have found him to be very understandable and accurate in almost all of his teachings.

Buy this book and read it!

Buy one for a Christian friend as a gift, they will thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth reading!!!, October 11, 2005
This review is from: Secrets of Golgotha: The Lost History of Jesus' Crucifixion (Paperback)
This work is done in a very scholarly fashion and draws conclusions about important places and events in the life of Christ. It will be helpful to the reader if they have an understanding about places in the Holy Lands before reading the book. I have studied this part of the world for several years and have already visited there once. We are going back again in a few months. After reading this book, there are several places that I want to spend more time on this second visit. This book is a definite eye-opener.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book on the crucifixion., March 5, 2007
This review is from: Secrets of Golgotha: The Lost History of Jesus' Crucifixion (Paperback)
Mr. Martin has written arguably the best book about the crucifixion and it's site.
He does an excellent job of using Scripture and rabbinical sources to pinpoint exactly where the crucifixion happened and why other famous sites are incorrect. He discusses laws and customs of that time, both Jewish and Roman, and how they factor into the crucifixion.
"Without the camp" and the crucifixion site can only be one direction and he gives a lot of concrete reasons why this is true.
Mr. Martin goes into vivid detail about the crucifixion and why Messiah died so quickly compared to the two criminals that were crucified with him.
The section about the fulfillment of the Suffering Servant in Isaiah 52:13-53:12 was excellent and puts Messiah's suffering in a new light!
There are a few tidbits of little-known information about Judas Iscariot and the Apostle John.
The similarities of the crucifixion with the process of the red heifer sacrifice was educational.
He addresses the four miraculous signs in Jewish history regarding the Temple from A.D.30-A.D.70.
Mr.Martin shares some of Eusebius' writings about where Messiah lived and taught for the most part. This area became very important to Christians of the era before Constantine.
There is so much information in this book!
For years we have been taught incorrectly about the manner and location of Messiah's crucifixion. Reading this book has made me aware of more prophetic and symbolic meanings and the horrendous suffering by Messiah. The suffering goes beyond what you saw in "Passion of the Christ".
I highly recommend this book.
