5.0 out of 5 stars A stinging work, like your tongue on a nine-volt battery...
Seldom does one see writing of such buttery, lingering nuance combined with the cold gut-punch of truth. Yet Orlando has managed just that -- both lace and iron, soothing on a level deeper than most will have encountered outside a good colonic. Orlando's seeming roughness gives way, as he draws for us the portrait of a Master Chief not so sure of himself as afraid of his...

Ok, so I figured that a book called "Secrets of Halo 2" might be cool, and show me some secrets that I haven't found yet (there are a lot out there). Instead what I got was this piece of ....

First off, out of the whole book, only about 6 pages are actually about Halo 2, and those are just a walkthrough of campaign. The rest of the book contains a history of first person shooters, and, get this, hints and cheats for OTHER games. If I wanted to know about Half Life 2, I would have bought a book on Half Life 2. Oh, and for those really old school fans, there's a quick walkthrough of Halo as well.

Even if I knew what this book was going to be, I would say avoid it. It has more crappy screenshots, and over used strategies (example: Remember that you can duel wield in Halo 2), then you can shake a stick at.

Avoid buying this book. Save your money for Halo 3.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Halo Fan, March 4, 2006
This review is from: Secrets of Halo 2: An Inside Look at the Fantastic Halo Universe! (Paperback)
I agree with "A Reader" I bought this book thinking I could use it to get on top of levels, get infinite ammo, etc. What I got was some pretty useless guides for Halo 1 and 2, plus a bunch of what felt like ads. If you're a die-hard Halo fan, this book might be worth buying, but otherwise I would advise steering clear of it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Secrets of Halo 2, October 24, 2005
This review is from: Secrets of Halo 2: An Inside Look at the Fantastic Halo Universe! (Paperback)
Secrets of Halo 2 is a bit misleading because of its title. It doesn't really have any "secrets", but it does have complete walkthroughs of both Halo 1 & 2. It also has recommendations for other games inside, such as Half-Life and Doom 3. Overall, it is an ok book, especially if you are a Halo fan.

Yet Orlando has managed just that -- both lace and iron, soothing on a level deeper than most will have encountered outside a good colonic. Orlando's seeming roughness gives way, as he draws for us the portrait of a Master Chief not so sure of himself as afraid of his own addicitions and unrelenting greed, to reveal the soul and feathery wing-beats of a young poet-god. It's tangy stuff, to be sure, yet steeped in a sense of goodness that may well fill the reader with knowing beyond sense, and that oft-sought Deeper Understanding. Here here!
