"What looks like a practical guidebook quickly reveals itself to be a fireworks display of inspiration and encouragement. In The 12 Secrets of Highly Successful Women, Gail McMeekin not only gives women a map toward clearer success for themselves; she also offers the wisdom of other women to reinforce her message that success hinges on heeding the voice of inspiration. She's let the cat out of the bag in her latest book: creativity is not only a part of success...it's the heart of success. Whatever part of the journey you're on, McMeekin's book will help you tune in, turn on, let go, and shine brighter in order to create the life that defines success for YOU." --Mary Beth Maziarz, songwriter and author of Kick-Ass Creativity: An Energy Makeover for Artists, Explorers, and Creative Professionals

Her 12 Secrets of Highly Successful Women gets right to the loving heart of how women are redefining success and building lives that are wildly creative and creatively successful! I'll be recommending this book for many years to come." -SARK, Succulent Wild Woman, PlanetSARK.com

"Gail McMeekin's new book on success secrets for creative women is even better than her first (which I loved)! She shares real stories of successful women--not just the glory but the details of how they got up from the falls, got past the slams and insults, and got through the fear. This book is a toolkit for the kind of success that comes straight from the soul." -Barbara Sher, New York Times bestselling author of I Could Do Anything If Only I Knew What It Was

"Reading The 12 Secrets of Highly Successful Women, you gradually discover the one real secret of a successful life: it is yours--and yours alone. You get to find and define it. You get to create it. You get to fall in love with it. And you get to live it on your own terms. That's exciting, yes, but daunting, too. Be not afraid. Between these covers, Gail McMeekin has distilled a rich array of wisdom from thirty brilliant and successful women and her thirty years of coaching experience into 12 essential ingredients. Take them, sift them, stir them into your own brilliant and successful life." --Janet Conner, author of Writing Down Your Soul

"This book weds access to meaningful work and heart-based action with practical, actionable steps toward business fulfillment and success. With precision Gail calls out the chronic undermining elements in a woman's career and elevates the models for satisfaction and reward. She extracts the very best gems from her generous successful guides. It's a treasure box: open it." -Mary Anne Radmacher, author of Lean Forward into Your Life

"Gail has done it again. What a powerhouse of practical, inspiring stories. I have flagged, underlined, and highlighted many, many passages. You will be dipping into this wisdom for years to come. Buy it for yourself and for all your friends who wonder 'How does she do it?'" -Jennifer Louden, author of the The Woman's Comfort Book and The Life Organizer

Gail McMeekin's latest book is another gem. I love the way she writes and the "12 secrets" format! This newest book focuses on success for women. It goes through the many fears and myths that hold women back, and guides them through the stages of claiming a type of career success that feels authentic to them. I found the stories of successful women in the book inspiring and the many challenges and quizzes enlightening.

I understand she has a creativity workbook on the way, too. I can't wait!

Gail McMeekin devotes a separate chapter to each of the 12 "secrets" and, in fact, none is a secret. Rather, an evidence-driven, experience-proven, eminently sensible admonition. There are no head-snapping revelations among them, nor does McMeekin make any such claim. The great value of this book, rather, is derived from the process of self-examination and personal transformation that McMeekin explains with uncommon clarity as well as conviction. She serves as her reader's coach, mentor, and travel guide but also as a companion during what is inevitably for each reader a perilous journey of self-discovery. I hasten to add that men as well as women can learn much of great value from the various female exemplars on whom McMeekin focuses.

She wrote this book as a guide to help her reader to leverage abilities and avoid or overcome various pitfalls, such as the 18 she identifies on Pages 8-9. "Fortunately, there are remedies for all of these issues, and this book is your guide to creative success and peace of mind. Most of the creative liabilities are also strengths, but you must learn how to capitalize on them and redesign your strategies of being in the world."

McMeekin immediately establishes a direct and personal rapport with her reader. I think she makes brilliant use of a series of exercises for the reader to complete. They serve several separate but interdependent purposes as self-diagnostics, reality checks, guidelines for decision-making, and reminders of key points. My own opinion is that they are also included to enable the reader to interact (emotionally as well as intellectually) with the abundance of material that McMeekin provides.

I've almost completed this book and am having such a great time following the advice, inspiration, stories and activities in Gail's lastest book. The diversity of careers the women represent is especially appealing. And, in this era of disenchantment of political figures, I appreciated Gail's inclusion of former congresswoman from Colorado Pat Schroder.
One final observation: While I'm not personally interested in launching a new business venture or creative endeavor, I find the 12 Secrets presents encouraging and wholesome challenges that enrich my life today.

Gail's latest book The 12 Secrets of Highly Successful Women is a treasure trove of resources. It's been several years since her first book appeared and this is significantly different and chock full of more exercises to help the reader become "highly successful."

Her interviews with over 30 highly successful women help us to understand how many different ways of describing success there really are. And each one works for the individual who is defining it. From millionaire entrepreneurs to politicians and scientists, all those interviewed have a story to tell.

Gail's exercises will take you on a journey that will provide you with your own definition of success and the significant steps you can take to arrive there! Check out her Journal too, as another great resource.

I read this and thought of one of my daughters so I bought it for Christmas. She has a short break coming up (from her multiple jobs) and is looking forward to reading this and sharing with friends.

Nothing new here. A bit mystic and intuition with little substance for tangible business success, in my opinion. I was looking for more business advice.
