Great series!,
By
This review is from: Secrets of My Hollywood Life (Kindle Edition)
I have to say that of all the teen books I've read, this series is my absolute favorite. The story is always good and is nearly impossible to put down once you start reading. I would reccomend this series to anyone. Parents, if your ten year old wants to start reading teen books but you're wary of inappropriate content or language, these are the books to go with. There is no suggestive content or cussing, which is quite a breath of fresh air from a lot of the other teen books that are on the shelves. You won't be disappointed in SomHL!

Move over Hannah Montana there's a new star with a double life too and her name is Kaitlin Burke!,
This review is from: Secrets of My Hollywood Life (Paperback)
Hollywood is pretty much like the jungle, it's survival of the fittest.
Kaitlin Burke is so tired of the rumors and the press so she concocted a plan of having a double life. But we'll she succeed or will Sky her nemesis destroy her career? Secrets of My Hollywood Life is a fun, down-to-earth book that covers the life of a hollywood star. With it's fun characters and real life hollywood secrets it is really a book about the hidden desires of hollywood's a-listers. Jen Calonita really did a great job on this book and I really hope this book we'll reach Princess Diaries status. xoxo, gossip guy

Would make a really fun movie,
By
This review is from: Secrets of My Hollywood Life (Paperback)
I could totally see this book being made into a movie. It has a bit of a "Mean Girls" edge to it that is irresistable. Author Jen Calonita worked at Teen People before starting her life as an author. She obviously got the inside scoop while she was there. She seems to know all about Hollywood politics.
The story is a breeze to read, I finished the book in a days time no problem. Reading it so quickly was partly due to the fact that I was really sucked into the story! Kaitlin Burke is one of Hollywoods top 25 under 25, actually shes number 1. The girl is a force of nature. She is known for being a sweet girl, a prime time soap star who grew up in front of the cameras. Her on screen sister is a living nightmare, Sky likes to step on as many toes as she can to get to the top of the Hollywood food chain. When Kaitlin decides she wants to be a normal girl and go undercover to one of her friends high schools, she finds out that high school isnt so different from Hollywood.

Jen Calonita is my new bff... Shhh! She just doesn't know it! I mean, we are both from Long Island. We think Kaitlin & Liz are awesome.
Secrets of My Hollywood Life is a cute, breezy read that is all about fun! Fun! It is really refreshing to just curl up w/ a kicky read that is just darn enjoyable! No vamps or zombies running around ~ Yay! Jen is like a glass of lemonade when the sun is blaring on your skin... revitalizing! Jen writes as if she was born w/ a Bic(tm) attached to her hand. I was just pulled in to Kaitlin's world which is more than Hollywood fluff. Love it! Liz is the friend we all want in our world. Liz is a delightful character that needs her own chronicles. *Hint*. Calonita's characters are authentic & not over the top "Hollyweird"( Jen must of been lurking about w/ notebook in hand to get the delicious goods on life as a teen & in Hollywood!). The Los Angeles school district should make Jen's series a reading must in their school curriculum. Hmmm, I wonder how long it'll be before Disney or Nick come banging on Calonita's door. Anyone willing to place bets it won't be too long? Believe it not, I found myself relating to *gulp* Kaitlin's bratty co-star, Sky Mackenzie! Yup, I did. I loved Kaitlin but Sky was wicked fun! My diva side does rear its adorable head @ times. I loved to hate Sky; Jen really made me feel all of Kaitlin's emotions. For me, that is what reputable writing is all about! Calonita made me want what Kaitlin wanted. Jen's writing was so vivacious, I was living Kaitlin's life. I was having a blast living the glam life! Jen gives you a yummy glimpse inside the inner celeb circles ~ guilty pleasure @ its best. Applause to Calonita for writing a story that is charming, entertaining, interesting & spirited. If you're looking for a beach read that is breezy & fun Secrets of My Hollywood Life is the book to tote along to the shore, pool, to camp or wherever you happen to be this summer! Love chick-lit? Secrets of My Hollywood Life has a spunky chick-lit vibe. Oh, one more thing! I absolutely adore Jen's covers!!! I love them!!!

Sixteen-year-old Kaitlin Burke has been on the same nighttime soap, Family Affair, for the past twelve years. In between interviews, press junkets, trips abroad, and other smaller parts, she's had to deal with a demanding publicist, a mother who seems to be living her own life through that of her daughters, and a growing feud with her co-star, Sky Mackenzie. Ever since the two girls were cast, at age four, as fraternal twins on the show, Sky has been the bad girl with Kaitlin playing the role of good girl--both on screen and off.
As this season's hiatus nears, Kaitlin realizes that there's more to life than being on Teen People's list of hottest young stars, or being number six on Entertainment Weekly's "It List." Sure, there's an audition for a new movie by hot director Hutch Adams that she'd love to land, but she's also supremely tired. Working nearly nonstop for twelve years has taken its toll. So Kaitlin has come up with the perfect plan to take a break over hiatus--she'll attend Clark Hall as regular student Rachel Rogers, a girl from London visiting the U.S. for two months. Everything is going along according to plan. Although the principal of Clark Hall and her fellow student and friend Liz know her true identity, no one else has a clue that plain, studious Rachel is really Kaitlin from one of the most popular shows on television. As "Rachel" settles into normal teen life, signing up to be on the boring dance committee and indulging in her love of math, she feels for the first time like a regular teen. And when she meets Austin, a guy unlike every Hollywood celebrity she's ever met, she knows she might be falling in love. But as rumors start to swirl in the tabloids and as her double life is threatened by exposure, Kaitlin will have to learn what's really important in life--true friends, whether they know her as Kaitlin or Rachel; the belief in herself as an actress; and the blessing and curse that is the media. SECRETS OF MY HOLLYWOOD LIFE is a quick, entertaining read that sheds new light on what it means to be a celebrity. Not everything is as great as Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, or Nicole Richie would like us to believe, but it sure is filled with excitement!

This story I love because it's very real, you know it's not, but it gives you a new outlook on stardom and what a teen actor goes through everyday, you see her loving fame but wanting a break. It's a side we never see, and it's the reality in this story that I love.

The inside scoop we've ALL been waiting for!,
By Taylor ! "- Taylor M ." (Delaware, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Secrets of My Hollywood Life (Paperback)
So... In the book "Secrets of My Hollywood Life" we are introduced to young Hollywood star, Kaitlin Burke. Everyone in America LOVES her, heck, EVERYONE loves her, but Kaitlin is sick of the attention. Directors want her, girls want to Be her, and boys want to be WITH her. All Kaitlin wants is to be a normal girl with normal friends. If only her Beautiful blond waves and emerald green eyes didn't give her away. WAIT! What better thing to do then to disguise herself and go to the same school as her best (normal) friend Liz... right!? WRONG! Kaitlin soon finds out that being "normal" isn't exactly a walk in the park either. With her new cropped brown hair wig, brown contacts, fake name, fake but oh-so-good Brittish accent, and thrift-store threads, Kaitlin is labeled the GEEK of all GEEKS in her school. Only her closest friends and family know her secret. If anyone outside her inner circle found out, Kaitlin wouldn't be America's sweetheart anymore and her career would be on the line. Not to mention how much everyone would HATE her. Kaitlin is in a tight situation and it doesn't help that everyone in school is making fun of her. Everyone except for Austin. Austin is the all-around best guy that a girl can ask for. He's smart, funny, and HOTT! Austin likes the new girl Rachel (our favorite Kaitlin Burke in disguise) and he likes her for being so real and sharing interests with him. What he doesn't know is that Rachel is Kaitlin whos jealous co-star, Sky Makenzie, is out to ruin her career. Who knows what will happen next in this thrilling adventure!?! Will Kaitlin be revealed? Will Austin like Rachel AND Kaitlin? Will Sky FINALLY be fired?! It is all answered in this FANTASTIC book! Read it! The worst that will happen is that you won't like it (yeah right!) I rated it FIVE STARS for a reason you know! I hope you enjoyed my review!

Krazy About Kaitlyn,
By
This review is from: Secrets of My Hollywood Life (Hardcover)
What a refreshing change of pace in the world of "tween" novels!
The author is wonderfully descriptive and the characters come alive, making you feel as if you've jumped right into the pages and have become part of the story yourself. This book is difficult to put down and always keeps you wondering what will happen to Kaitlyn next. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series! For those parents that are leery of the content, I can assure you this book is good clean fun! You will thoroughly enjoy it from beginning to end! |
