Book Description

Kerry Darcy has loved Conor, her childhood sweetheart, for more than twenty years. They’ve built their dream home together, raised a happy family and are still madly in love.
Hope Kennedy seems to have it all; a fabulous job, a luxurious apartment and best of all she’s married to her soulmate, Niall.
Two very different women, two perfect husbands; but what happens when their lives horribly collide?
The terrible force of chaos ensues; a force that takes its fateful hold on time and place. It ruptures the present, warps the future, replacing order with confusion, confidence with trepidation and control with powerlessness. Lives are ended for some, changed forever for others and a most significant chain of events is about to unfold with catastrophic results.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Secrets & Lies was a wonderful story. It kept building momentum as the stories of Kerry's and Hope's lives unfolded. The author described the characters in vivid detail and you felt as though you knew them by the end of the novel. There are also hints as to their lives possibly intersecting in the following sequels which promises to be very interesting considering the cliffhanger of an ending! I feel compelled to read Aftermath to see exactly what lies ahead for these characters... ~ Michele H

Without giving anything away,I understand why there are pending books in this trilogy to follow.I sat down this Sunday afternoon, and was immediately glued to this book. I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen.A very enjoyable read...from one Irish lady to another. Thanks Joanne! ~ Coccotoro

Secrets and Lies is another outstanding read from an author who I have recently discovered. The characters were richly developed and interesting and drew me into the story. I stayed up all night just to finish it. I was especially enthralled by the story of Hope's life. She has had so many ups and downs but she's a survivor and I get the feeling she's going to need her survival instincts in the next books. The book is well written with a great story that will get you emotionally. I'm so happy that it's the first book in the trilogy. ~ Martine Bastow

3.0 out of 5 stars Ends with a mysterious bang! February 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a difficult book to write a review for. The characters are interesting and well drawn. The plot is good. As far as the actual writing goes, clearly this author has talent. She can make you believe you are right there, overhearing a conversation between two of her characters. There is some jumping back and forth between memories and the present, but for the most part it wasn't confusing and I thought it was handled pretty well.

What I didn't fully understand about this book, is that the end is really the only part that is terribly exciting and when you get there, you basically come to the understanding that if you want to feel in any way blissful and at peace after having read this book, that you have to read the next. This doesn't make for a very good standalone.

Overall I would have to say that this book was pretty good. There are things happening during this first installment, but personally I would have liked to have seen things pick up a little quicker before the very end of the book. Leaving off on a cliffhanger might make some people eager to read the next in the series. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I like having a reason to want to read a second book in a series, this is true. Still, I'm not certain that just cutting off the ending with so many questions hanging after reading a book where not all that much happens was the way to entice me personally.

If you are a fan of this author, I certainly understand why. Her writing does have merit, and this is an interesting book. I would like to go back and read some of her other works.

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm Guessing The Next Will Be Better November 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This, the first in the Secrets and Lies trilogy, builds on the lives of its characters with nothing catastrophic happening until the last page or two of the book and by then, Hope's and Kerry's lives have not come together.

For the most part Secrets and Lies is well-written other than its propensity to revert to earlier times in the lives of its characters, primarily of the females. What held my interest is the promise of something occurring which as I've written, does not take place until the last page or two. If I had the second in the series already in my kindle arsenal, I would read that next as I imagine the series can only get better.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read!! March 24, 2013
By Crys
Format:Kindle Edition
After I had started reading this book, I couldn't seem to put it down until I had finished it. This book was an amazing first book of a series; it was well written and the information given about the different characters was done in such a way, you couldn't wait to read more to find out what happens next.

The way that the author was able to describe the different aspects of the characters lives, without seeming overbearing with the details was amazing. She was able to tell you just enough to leave you wanting for more.

During the course of this book, you learn about 2 completely different women's lives, and how one act has affected them both. You learn about how the women met their husbands, and how their lives have changed. It also shows some of the hardships that the women have been through in their lives, like many of us have in our lives. It touches on some important topics, but without over powering the book completely.

The ending of this book has definitely left me wanting to read more of this series.

I will totally recommend this book to many of my friends!
