Book Description

Would you like the secrets to a successful long distance hike?

Secrets Of The Long Haul's message is simple: 85 percent of the effort it takes to walk a long distance trail is locked in your mind. To be successful you need to realign the importance you've placed on gear and shift it to the metal effort required.

This book is about learning to successfully walk long distances, no matter what trail in the world. It's not a book about how to "try" or "attempt" a long distance hike.

Walking a long distance trail starts with a choice -- the choice to walk. All of the choices before you start walking, and all the choices you make on the trail are based on your attitude. Attitude determines how the choices fall. Either way it goes, you'll remember the outcome of the hike almost every day of your life.

How-to do walk a long distance trail hiking is not the problem. There are books and websites that will give you their formula -- some of the writers are excellent and should have a place in your preparation -- but precious few of them will write in-depth about having the right attitude and preparing the mind.

If "how-to" were the problem, then 100 percent of the people who attempted a long distance trail would succeed -- there's so much information available!

How-to guides aren't very helpful because they're only one side to a multifaceted puzzle. They give recommendations on equipment, health, weather, and terrain, but what they don't tell you is how to successfully walk the whole trail.

The 27,000 words of Secrets To The Long Haul are organized into three parts, each corresponding to the things you'll need to successfully walk a long distance: Your Mind, Your Body, and Your Equipment.

The objective of each page in Secrets Of The Long Haul is to remove resistance, reservations or suspicions you may have about walking a long distance, because the prepared mind can do it.

I am happy this book was only $4. The majority of it explains what the book is going to explain. There is also a bunch of information I could have just found on my own using google.

Lots of repetition, "hiking is 85% mental" okay i get it, don't have to say it every 10 pages.

Congrats on finishing the trail though, that is awesome.
