Not what I expected,

This review is from: Secrets From the Lost Bible: Hidden Scriptures Found (Hardcover)
I expected this book to be a some lost secrets of the biblical manuscripts searched out by a scholar. Instead it is nothing but a book of moral teachings pulled out of some of the early Jewish writings that were not included in the Jewish Tanakh, and the Catholic Apocrypha that was not carried into the Protestant Bible. He also draws teachings from the Nag Hammadi texts. Some of the "lost" books he uses is Judith, the book of Adam and Eve,the Gospel of Thomas, and the infancy Gospel of Thomas. He explores lessons in living in the worlds of knowing, being, feeling, and doing. If you enjoy Sunday sermons that tell a bible story then a lesson from it, you will like this book. Look else where for a serious study of these documents.

Solid, full of facts, yet fun to read,

This review is from: Secrets From the Lost Bible: Hidden Scriptures Found (Hardcover)
Readers who want to know about many Jewish and Christian writings left out of the Bible--what they say, who probably wrote them and why they were probably excluded--will find the answers in Secrets from the Lost Bible. Kenneth Hanson even provides useful time lines summarizing such details as the language in which each text was originally written, what language it exists in today, the probable time of its composition, and more. He also opens up these often strange and cryptic texts, pulling forward for the reader a message that the author of each likely intended to convey. If you are at all curious about what was banned from the Bible and why, you'll be something of an expert once you read Kenneth Hanson's book. (Speaking of "banned from the Bible," Dr. Hanson was one of the experts interviewed for that History Channel documentary.)
