I was floored.I found this book in a used bookstore, yesterday afternoon and have read it three times today and ordered four more copies. One for every business owner in my family! This is by far the best book on marketing and copywriting I have ever read, and now it sits on my desk (not on my bookshelf) next to Collier, Caples and Kennedy. Why? Because, it explains and reinforces the basics and blows apart myths that have been long standing. Here mind-blowing example: "Sometimes you need to educate a 'suspect' into becoming prospect. ( By 'suspect' we are referring to anyone who should be a prospect for your product or service, but doesn't know it yet.)" -- Page 73 Para 2 Before I read this book, I didn't think this was possible. Even a stupid way to do things. But then they SHOW you how to educate that suspect and flip them into a prospect -- and then a loyal customer. They give you a sales letter for a campaign they ran, using this technique. It's an awesome letter. As I write this, there are 35 copies for sale (I bought three), and I suspect they won't be around long. I am announcing this find to my mailing list!

Even though this book was published in 1992, it is as relevant today as then. If you are familiar with Seth Godin, this book covers many topics he has covered over the years in Permission Marketing, Purple Cow, All Marketers are Liars, etc.
Common Sense marketing is geared towards 12 innovative overlooked "secret" ways to improve customer service or experience. The tone is very conversational and feels like a friend is talking to you. It's a quick read, a book you will always want to have on hand, and I couldn't recommend it enough. |
