spirits in the afterlife share,

This review is from: Secrets of the Monarch: What the Dead Can Teach Us About Living a Better Life (Hardcover)
My take away from Allison's book is that once we die and enter another dimension, we can experience regret just as we do in human bodies on earth. I found this facinating and worrisome at the same time. My hope was that death would bring a blissful afterlife with only love, joy, happiness...with nothing to regret, no "negative" emotions!
Allison's first hand experience with people who've passed to the otherside helped me realize that we have so many reasons to do it "right" in this earthly lifetime and that every decision we make here is important, however trivial. That said, I've a renewed sense of responsibility to myself, my husband and children, and to the world in which I live. That means helping people whenever the opportunity arises and treating Mother Earth with great respect. In this book we learn that our relationships matter dearly and don't end with death. So we should invest in ourselves and our loved ones now, TODAY! Because it's not about life till you die, but literally, eternal life. A bit scary and overwhelming to me but it seems to be the common theme in all the spiritual/self-help/medium-inspired books these days! This is a wonderful read. Simple, meaningful and useful for someone exploring his or her connection to deceased loved ones or to God and the afterlife in general. And if you've read Allison's other books as I have, I think you'll find this just as enjoyable.

I didn't like this book as much as I did the others. I almost felt as if Allison was repeating what was said in her other books. I breezed through her 2 other books and was really looking forward to this one being just as enjoyable. To me I thought it was interesting but repetitive. I felt like I was reading more of a self-help book rather than one about Allison's gift. I do recommend it and I'm very glad I bought it but I hope that her next book, and hopefully there will be a next book, will mirror her other books.

Allison DuBois' third book "Secrets of the Monarch" is a wonderful read. Though Allison has become a celebrity since inspiring the TV show "Medium," you wouldn't know it from this book. Her voice is casual and full of pep and vigor. She is in no way sanctimonious. This is a woman who includes crashing a wedding on her list of things to do before she dies, and has a teenager who rolls her eyes at her. Even so, her spirituality and love shine through. In her straightforward way, she gives us her thoughts on what we can do to have the kind of life we won't regret once it's over.
The stories of her connections with the other side are compelling, heartfelt, and at least to me, present convincing argument for the fact that love and relationships continue after death. It's also fun to read the foreword written by Allison's husband Joe Dubois, who writes, "Many people ask me how I do it, how do I live with Allison? At first this offended me. I would think, how could I not live with Allison?" It's obvious, Joe sees Allison's gift as a blessing. So do I. Highly recommend.

I have read Allison's two previous books, and while they were excellent, I found I learned the most in reading Secrets of the Monarch. Her writing style is so personable, and her exhortation to recognize the qualities we possess from those who came before us is such necessary advice. She takes the statement to live life to the fullest and connects that to the type of life we offer to those who come after us.

I bought Allison DuBois' Secrets of the Monarch because I recently saw DuBois on a talk show and was curious about what her book would be like. She writes just like she talks: informally. The problem I had, though, is how much of the book is about what Dubois thinks and not so much about "what the dead can teach us...." I haven't read many books like this, so maybe my expectations were wrong, but I did expect for the bulk of the book to be about messages she had received from the dead through her work as a medium, either through her work as a psychic detective or as a reader for individual clients. It wasn't, and so I was disappointed. I haven't read her other books, so I don't know if they were the same thing. She also spent time defending herself for past comments and deeds that had either disappointed or hurt her in some way, but I think that this book wasn't the place for that. Otherwise, she should have given it a different title. The overall message, both from the dead and the living, is about forgiveness, living this life conscientiously, etc., which is good, I know. I just expected more information about what the dead can tell us. Her writing style is a little too conversational for my taste and makes her sound less intelligent than she is. Would I recommend this book? Yes, but with the warning that it doesn't live up to its title and that it's mostly focused on what Dubois experiences and believes.

This book has very little information. All she says is that, the dead people still remain with us and we have to be happy or remember them to make them happy. People who are alive should spend more time with family for memorable moments. The same thing is repeated over and over again. There is a lot of unnecessary information about her family and friends like how her daughter looks? What she likes to eat and other crap. Although I believe what ever she says is true, there is simply not much useful information.

Disappointing,

Allison DuBois uses events in her own life to suggest how others may learn from them and live a better life. I don't mind her casual, easy writing style but she tends to ramble. In the middle of a story she would go off in a tangent over a minor point - so much so that I would forget the original story all together until she suddenly decided to come back to it.
She would also emphasise a small fact so much that I would think it must factor more importantly in the story later on - but no, it was just another ramble. It also tends to be repetitive. I found this all annoying and eventually stopped reading the book (about halfway through). I have never read her other books and I doubt I will now.

This book is simply written, with good advice based on Allison's experiences. I'm a fan of the TV show based on her life and talents, The Medium. She has also written two other books. I have read them both, and I enjoyed them more than this book.

Many questions received answers,

I am a recent widow with many questions and many strange happenings. Since I had purchased the two previous books which offered answers at that time, I felt maybe this book had something new about healing and understanding and moving forward. It sure did and it wasn't in big scientific terminaology but just basic down to earth language. I cried several times (mostly in Chapter 8) because she was right on target about how those who have passed still can communicate and teach us more about our new lives. Also, I am always seeing monarch butterflies so I knew that I had to read this book. Thanks.

This book is full of plain commonsense advise, nothing special. You don't need to be able to communicate with the dead to give the type of advise she gives on this book. It feels like a common human being wrote a book about her life! So bland, so plain. If you have commonsense and a basic education, you don't need this book!
