Book Description

August 6, 2002
His name has become a synonym for clairvoyance: Nostradamus, astrologer to the king of France, the most famous seer in Western history. But the real meaning of his prophecies has gone undetected, hidden in a secret alchemical code. Known as the Green Language, it was understood by only a handful of medieval occult scholars, and has been lost for centuries -- until now.

David Ovason spent 40 years working on the Green Language, enabling him to finally crack the secret code of Nostradamus. In this book, he reveals with line-by-line analysis the hidden writings of the great astrologer, showing that his dates and details are more exact than any previous scholars have realized. As a master of the arcane astrological traditions practiced by Nostradamus, Ovason provides the most accurate and insightful account ever written of this mysterious figure's writings, predictions, and life.

From Publishers Weekly

Little is known about his life, yet the 16th-century French mystic Michel Nostradamus easily remains the most famous prophet in Western history; his enigmatic prophecies, which baffled and frustrated his contemporary clients, have awed and intrigued generations of followers. But according to Ovason (The Secret Architecture of Our Nation's Capital), who has studied Nostradamus for some 40 years, no one has yet successfully penetrated the secrets contained in the prophecies. Because of Nostradamus's deeply arcane approach (including obscure astrological methods and the use of an esoteric code known as the "Green Language"), Ovason argues, the oracles can be understood only through a laborious decryption process. Ovason's technique largely consists of attempting to crack the code at the syllabic levelAhunting down missing vowels, extra consonants, hidden acronyms; even a comma may have a secret agenda. Under this unbearable linguistic pressure, two lines of prophecy rapidly unfold into 20 pages of exegesis more byzantine and torturedAand even less believableAthan its subject. Painstakingly assembled, Ovason's interpretations can be credited only with being at least as farfetched and imaginative as his predecessors'. Furthermore, readers seeking to know what the Nostradamian future really holds will be disappointed, since Ovason firmly maintains that the prophecies are so deeply coded they can really only be accurately deciphered after they are fulfilled. Still, some readers truly committed to the Nostradamus cult will battle their way through Ovason's labored readings; for the rest, the secrets of the future will have to remain forever shrouded in the seer's memory. 25-city radio campaign. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellente!!, August 25, 1998
By A Customer
After reading so many books on the Master's visions and so many interpretations, this is the one I've been waiting for. Ovason clearly takes the reader trhough the translations of a quatrain and explains the mystery behind the meaning. The Green Language was new to me, and as I read the book, many things became clear to me. Please pick up this book, and forget everything that you have heard about Nostradamus before. This is the definitive interpretation(s), and you will love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Subtle Intellect, December 9, 2001
By
The excellent scholarship that lies behind David's work mimics the 16th century's scholar's dedication to clarity and accuracy. This book will not be a clear or easy read for the mass market. However, clarity must not be confused with simplicity. This book is clear to some. Simple, it is not. The green language is, by nature, a code, and thus unreadable without its key. David supplies this key and opens a new door of understanding to those willing to invest a little time in thought. The green language was used because of its unique ability to express the most subtle of intellectual ideas. it was also used to shield these ideas from the calumny of the unlearned masses. Thus, revealing the code will certainly open the author to calumny, the student to enlightenment, and all fools to a field upon which they may practice there art.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money., October 1, 2001

"dxbray" (Denver, Colorado United States) - See all my reviews
Previous to ordering The Secrets of Nostradamus David Ovason I read The Prophecies of Nostradamus by Erika Cheetham, which I believe was published in 1972. What I liked most about this book was the way all of the quatrains had the original text along with the English interpretations, then an explanation of the quatrain according to the author, and let you draw your own conclusions. When I read the "Editorial Reviews Book Description" for The Secrets of Nostradamus by David Ovason, I was excited with the anticipation of reading the quatrains with a new and updated interpretation. But I was very disappointed.

The Secrets of Nostradamus it turns out, is only the writings of a pompous, condescending, pinhead. He spends more time explaining why every one else is wrong in their interpretations then he does putting forth his own. In fact he only address a dozen or two quatrains.

If you are looking for a book that interprets the prophecies of Nostradamus into English and offers an explanation of the quatrains this is not the book for you. Don't waste your money.
