5.0 out of 5 stars 100% Useful!, October 17, 2001

This review is from: Secrets of Power Presentations (Paperback)
Peter Urs Bender has a great writing style. In all his books, he is right to the point, pragmatic, and every line is written with a purpose. One can hardly find any sentence that is out of place or useless. This book is no different.

This book discusses 5 topics: (1) Speech, (2) Body Language, (3) Equipment, (4) Environment, (5) Preparation. Its goal is to help you think clearly and have an effective, straightforward battleplan when you are making presentations. Armed with this book, your delivery should improve immediately. This book is for anyone (beginner or pro) who want to become a 'star' speaker. Thank you Mr. Bender.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good presentation book to emphasize preparation, June 12, 2005

This review is from: Secrets of Power Presentations (Paperback)
This is the second Peter Urs Bender book that I read. I highly recommend this book to those who are afraid of presenting in front of a large group of people, but would like to do it. I finished this book in a week, and would like to read it again.
After reading this book, not only do you find that all the presenters (not only you) are very nervous, but you also find that how to hide your nervousness. One tip I like best is, you may imagine all your listeners are naked!
Peter emphasizes so much on preparation, that's basically the book's whole point: If you fail to prepare, you prepare to fail.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book on public speaking and presentation, January 15, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Secrets of Power Presentations (Paperback)
If you occasionally speak to groups but don't have formal training or you just want to improve how others perceive you, get this book! It's a great refresher for those who speak and present frequently.

The book covers what you need to know to make great presentations in a comprehensive, yet compact book. Peter Urs Bender presents his material in a light but extremely informative manner. The material he covers rivals the professional public speaking and presentation seminars I have attended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, humorous and easy-to-read., February 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Secrets of Power Presentations (Paperback)
This stuff works. Many other books are theoretically sound, but don't have a firm handle on how audiences think/react. This book is founded on years of experience -- and on the needs of the listener.

As a speaker myself, here's some of what I learned from this book:

- Smile more (a simple idea, but powerful!)
- Slow down - a simple technical trick... how to use fewer words with greater precision
- The importance of "reading" your listeners (ie. watch their body language to see how you are doing)
- The simplest skills are the most effective and the most ignored
- Repetition is absolutely essential
- You must be seen to be in control of the situation; to do that you must be in control of yourself and your material
- Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learn from the master!, April 3, 2000
By
Valerie Wiener (Las Vegas, Nevada USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Secrets of Power Presentations (Paperback)
Peter Urs Bender's book, Secrets of Power Presentations, helps even the most reluctant speaker feel like a master. The reason is simple: A master presenter wrote the book! Peter's easy-to-understand principles and applications make Secrets of Power Presentations a must-read for anyone who wants to learn about making dynamic, memorable presentations. Peter's common-sense approach to communicating gives readers the tools to deliver important messages in understandable ways. He gives readers a real-world approach to speaking that no text book could deliver. A pat on the back to the author for a book well written. And . . . a pat on the back to the readers for investing in a book that will help them excel as communicators.
