From the Publisher

Fact: Only 3% of those who ever apply ever become LAPD Officers. Using this information as your guide, you will definitely be in the top 3%. This book will guide you through the tide of obstacles that you are sure to face during this vigorous and lengthy process, and as a result make it less intimidating and unknown. You will "without a doubt" receive an almost unfair edge over the competition.

From Chapter 1: A large portion of this book is devoted to the Oral Interview and its toughest questions. It seems that every department stresses one part of the examination process. What the department decides to stress on differs from department to department. Many choose the entrance written exam, while the LAPD has chosen "The Oral Interview."

From Chapter 2: For the LAPD, interviewing has made the transition from art to science. Interviews were developed with one goal in mind; to measure more accurately and reliably how a candidate will perform on the job if hired. Like scientists, interviewers are now expected to gather similar types of information on all of the specimens they study - information that can be measured, quantified and more accurately compared.

4.0 out of 5 stars LAPD candidates..., February 21, 2000
This review is from: Secrets To Preparing for the LAPD Process (Paperback)
This book provides all the fundamentals of the LAPD selection process. The author, an L.A. police officer, furnishes the reader with invaluable information, such as the various questions of the police interview, the content of the background investigation and interview, and the essential qualities of a Los Angeles police officer. Though the book is out-dated (1997) and some of the numbers have changed (police salary and # of sworn LAPD officers), it nevertheless gives a reader an overwhelming advantage. I can attest to this, as I bought the book months ago and just successfully passed the LAPD police officer interview. I was well-prepared because of this book; not only was I able to pre-formulate detailed answers to several questions, I also went into the interview confident and poised. If you are planning to join LAPD, purchase this book as well as BOOT: An LAPD Officer's Rookie Year, by Willaim C. Dunn. These two titles will better-prepare any police officer candidate!
