Carrie Stuart Parks writes the best books on drawing that I've ever run across. She breaks it down and makes it easy to understand and I would recommend her books to anyone regardless of skill level. Everyone can learn from her books, all you have to do is be willing to invest the time, and she makes it fun. The only reason this book got 4 stars is due to the fact the step by step projects in the back were a bit of a dissapointment, not because of subject matter, but because the reference photos you are to use are so small, unless you enlarge them on a copier or computer they are very difficult to draw from. However, that being said, DO NOT let this stop you from buying this book, it is well worth the price and there is a lot of good info in it. I would also suggest her portrait book as well of all the books I have in my library of drawing, this is the one I go back to everytime.

Another awesome book by Carrie Parks. This book is for beginners or someone learning another artsts technique. Well written great visual. A must for anyone learning to draw. It is true you can learn to draw from Carie and her wonderful books. Purchase both they are great together you will learn so much at any age.

I have been drawing for years, most friends and family know me for my Artistic Drawings. I always thought How could anyone teach me More or Even Better ways to Draw Realistic. I was wrong, this Book was Great, it showed me new ways to look at things and see how it should be on Paper. Even when i am just playing around my Sketches Look Real. The Book explains in very easy directions, and a great step by step. I would get for a kid wanting to learn how to draw, or Even an Adult just wanting to Improve there Artistic abilites.

I love this book and it is probably the best book I have ever read on drawing instruction.

This book truly helped me define relistic drawing and truly improved my skills. Wanting to get into 3D art I needed to have a good foundation of drawing and this book took me from drawing kindergarden pictures to drawing incredible pieces of art.

I was able to dramatically improve my drawing. Nice writing style too. Also recommend her older book on faces.

The first thing is, Carrie is to the point with what she thinks matters. This helps. She is careful to explain that there are many ways to do something and she gives examples. The realism she delineates leads to better artwork and her examples encourage a desire to do more.

[edit - I just finished the book. Incredibly kind words and minute attention to detail from the author leave me nearly speechless. This book is worth your time, if you want to have hope you can draw or even have hope you can learn to draw better.]

This is a great book. I learned a lot from this book I would recommend it if you want to work on your shading!

If you are hesitating about which book to buy, stop now and just order this one. It takes you from drawing an outline sketch to being able to create a polished drawing. If you have studied composition, proportions and such already and are ready for the next step, this is the way. And if you haven't studied anything before, this will give you an insight where most other books fail. Dare I say it makes drawing easy?!?!?

This is a great book! Once I get all I can out of this book I am going to purchase her other books. I am amazed at the improvement in my own drawing from just a little interaction with her book and techniques. This is for anyone who is interested in improving their drawing! Don't think you can't draw...you can!!
