Book Description

June 1, 2005
Marc Joseph, retail guru and founder of DollarDays International LLC, is helping thousands of independent retailers compete with the Wal-Marts of the world.

Fifteen years ago, the sleeping giant known as the "super-mega-everything store" reared its massive head in the retail world. Traditional mom-and-pop stores, once the backbone of American business, suddenly found themselves in dire straights.

"How can I help these stores stay afloat?" retail expert Marc Joseph asked himself. His answer: level the playing field between large and small retailers by creating DollarDays International LLC, now a surging internet business that champions the small retailer.

In "Secrets of Retail," Joseph shares practical, "been there, done that" advice on everything from the psychology of buying to hiring employees and working successfully with vendors and promoters. This invaluable book provides expert advice for small retailers, including a step-by-step guide to competing against Wal-Mart and other major chains, how to manage day-to-day operations and procedures ("retail detail") easily and effectively, and how to ensure profits. Joseph covers all the nuts and bolts of setting up shop and building your business, including:

• Purchasing merchandise
• Selling, promotion and advertising
• Hiring employees
• Pricing merchandise
• Writing a business plan
• Exciting your business

Whether you’re thinking about starting a business or just need help running the business you currently own, "Secrets of Retail" is the friendly, simple, effective, practical, and all-inclusive guide to success in the business.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Virtual Road Map to Starting a Retail Business, October 5, 2005
This review is from: Secrets of Retailing: Or, How to Beat Wal-Mart! (Hardcover)
Thankyou, Marc Joseph for "The Secrets of Retailing- or How to Beat Wal-Mart" The straight forward, non-technical language is refreshing. This book is a virtual road map to starting your own retail business. It's also a very useful "gut-check" for helping me measure the various components of my 114 year old family owned metal fabrication business. Henry Goodman, Zanesville Ohio

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Guide to Opening Your Own Store, July 5, 2005
This review is from: Secrets of Retailing: Or, How to Beat Wal-Mart! (Hardcover)
This book is the best guide to opening your own store that I have ever seen - and believe me, I've read most of them! In The Secrets of Retailing, Marc Joseph skips the intellectual theories that make most business books so boring and focuses instead on practical solutions. He shows you how you can live the American Dream by working for yourself - even if Wal-Mart opens up right down the street.

This review is from: Secrets of Retailing: Or, How to Beat Wal-Mart! (Hardcover)
Why be scared of the box retailers coming to town? No need! Even as it appears the world is becoming a giant chain store, this book makes it clear we can take on the big guys and win. This book is a must read for any entrepreneur - -large or small. In addition to his tips on competing, Mr. Joseph's insight on retail is fascinating. I highly recommend this book.
