An excellent book by this fine author. Pennick offers fascinating depth on runic history, the meanings and uses of the runes and on runic magick. Scholarly but written in a tone that manages to refrain from dryness. The differences between the various runerows could possibly have been edited down a bit, but I'd rather have too much info than too little. I even found a runescript - from something carved into a bluff in Oklahoma about 700 years ago, that ignited a flash of inspiration and a magickal rune poem. I enjoyed the in-depth look at the newer runes of the Younger Futhark, and the sections on tree magick; and the section on Runic workings is lighting the flame of inspiration in my brain.

Not only is this book beautiful to look at the reading flows in a easy to digest manner, never over assuming or boring Nigel keeps his well read knowledge of the runes basic and to the point.
Other authors are very educated and credible but seem to put their own beliefs in to their work sometimes not leaving the reader to think for their selves, Pennicks work just gives you the facts and lets you find your own path which is what rune work is all about.
Clear on divination with few riddles to wade through which is helpfull to those looking for divination resources.
