Secrets of Russian Skaters ? - Yes and No, September 8, 2000
This review is from: Secrets of Russian Skaters: Off-Ice Training Methods (Paperback)
If you are serious about competitive figure skating as either a single skater, pair skater or an ice dancer, this book is filled with excellent training ideas. If you are a spectator, this is not the book for you. While all the exercises and suggestions can be performed by any reasonably strong, healthy person, regardless of age, some of the exercises are virtually impossible to perform unless you have access to a high school gym. If you do, no authority figure will allow you to perform some of these exercises, which include climbing those lovely ladders mounted to gym walls and jumping off and landing in the correct landing position. The stroking exercises will give you more power and are excellent. The comments about carriage and line are excellent as well.
Unfortunately, several paragraphs that continue on the next page, simply don't. Most distressing is the fact that the book is spiral bound and certainly not worth the amount the publishers charge for it. It is size of a full-length presentation handout.
It is difficult to recommend this book 100%. While it has good suggestions, the cost really out-weighs the content.
