Book Description

August 1, 2006 Lifeboats: Offshore
A “little book of” racing. Hot tips from two experienced racers on how to win!

Neal McDonald and Mark Chisnell have been racing with and against each other for longer than either cares to remember. They have progressed from International 420 dinghies in the RYA’s Youth Squad, to a combined total of twenty five years as professional racing sailors, competing in every major event (and winning several). They have competed in dinghies – the Olympics, World Championships in 18 foot Skiffs, International 14s, Tornados, International 470s; and in yachts – the Whitbread Race, America’s Cup, and the Admiral’s Cup.

These are the lessons they have learnt – 180 rules that will cut down the simple expensive mistakes in preparation and racing, and immediately improve your fleet position. Everyone makes mistakes but the winner makes the least. This book is the answer – follow the rules and win!

More About the Author

Mark Chisnell writes the kind of stories that keep you turning the pages on holiday, and still thinking about them when you get back to work ...

The books include the chart-topping thrillers, The Defector, The Wrecking Crew and The Fulcrum Files - as well as award-winning works of non-fiction.

He's a former professional sportsman, and now also works as a broadcaster and journalist, writing for some of the world's leading magazines and newspapers, including Esquire and the Guardian.

Probably his greatest achievement was hitch-hiking to Mt Everest base-camp in Tibet. In training shoes. Or maybe that was the stupidest.

This review is from: The Secrets of Sailboat Racing (Lifeboats: Offshore) (Paperback)
I was expecting to see some in depth ideas on sailboat racing strategy and tactics considering the experience of the authors ; what I got was a beginners handbook reminding me to wear sunscreen when I go out on the water.

Most of what is given in this book is on the water common sense for beginner dinghy sailors, anyone looking for some high level, experienced thoughts on sailboat racing should stay away from this book.
