One incredible gem of knowledge after another!,

This review is from: Secrets of Screen Acting (A Theatre Arts Book) (Hardcover)
During my first read through my jaw kept dropping as I came to understand how little I know about screen acting, even at my low level of experience. This book did more to open my eyes to the virtually hidden peculiarities and demands of acting for the screen than anything I've ever read. The pages of review sheets at the back are worth the price of the book. The style is readable and the author speaks with the authority of experience. I'm sure that this will turn out to be the best investment I've made in my fledgling career as a film actor. I'm going to give this book to my closest actor-friends. I can't think of a better way to show how much I value them.

This book is a must-have for trained actors who still have little television on-set experience. Keep in mind that it is written by a British author so some of his humor may be lost on some of us Americans. While I admittedly don't understand some of his analogies and/or reasons for the way something is, the bottom line is that the point he's trying to make is ALWAYS accurate. I consider myself a trained and knowledgeable actor but I learned many things I was completely unaware of, even with my limited set experience as a principal actor. BOTTOM LINE: While some of Tucker's explanation for things may not make sense entirely, the POINT he is trying to make is nonetheless always right on point. I read it in record time (for me) and now I'm going back to re-read it and extract all of my highlighted notes into a folder. Very good book indeed!
