Book Description

December 27, 2007
East meets West in this extraordinary guide to natural healing by a prominent doctor of Chinese medicine and the author of Secrets of Longevity.

Dr. Mao's philosophy is simple: We all have a built-in healing ability, so why not try to activate it with natural means before we resort to drugs and invasive procedures? For the common cold, why not exploit the power of garlic, ginger, and the herb astragalus instead of taking cold medicine that simply replaces symptoms with side effects? For insomnia, why not try to find a long-term solution through acupressure or feng shui instead of popping sleeping pills, which don't treat the source of the problem?

Chinese medicine sees well-being as a result of a balanced life, not just a healthy body. In Part One of Secrets of Self-Healing, Dr. Mao explains that healing food and herbs, exercise, a positive emotional life, a suitable living environment, and spiritual growth are all essential to vitality and lasting health. Using examples of his own patients' experiences, he demonstrates:

- How negative emotions can make us ill
- How clutter in our homes can create imbalances in our bodies
- How Eastern and Western medicine can work together to fight cancer

Then, in Part Two, he reveals detailed home remedies for seventy common ailments, such as sore throat, allergies, high blood pressure, sunburn, insomnia, memory loss, and jet lag. Inspirational yet practical, Secrets of Self-Healing will put readers on the path to a balanced and healthy life.

“If you take just a few suggestions from Big Green Purse, you will be on your way to being part of the solution instead of part of the problem.”

5.0 out of 5 stars The end-all for natural health solutions!, January 8, 2008
By
This review is from: Secrets of Self-Healing: Harness Nature's Power to Heal Common Ailments, Boost Your Vitality, and AchieveOptimum Wellness (Hardcover)
Secrets of Self-Healing contains an unbelievable amount of information! It really opened my eyes to the fact that we all have the innate power to heal our own bodies. There is of course, a time and place for doctors, but the point is that you can't just expect doctors to "fix" every ailment. A case in point: last week I felt myself coming down with a cold, so I flipped to the remedies for cold & flu. I made myself the tea from garlic, ginger, and scallions, got right under the covers to sweat out the pathogens, as suggested, and the next day I felt an amazing improvement. But to really hit home the point, I could have followed Dr. Maoshing Ni's advice for keeping my immune system strong and never become ill in the first place! I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to discover natural ways to get in good health and stay in good health.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Absolute Best Alternative Health Reference - And It Works!, December 7, 2008
This review is from: Secrets of Self-Healing: Harness Nature's Power to Heal Common Ailments, Boost Your Vitality, and AchieveOptimum Wellness (Hardcover)
The five-star reviews here say it all really along with the excellent detail page itself. I have one comment to add: if you only purchased this amazingly thorough reference to obtain the accurate accupressure points for countless ailments from which you or a loved one suffers - the book would pay for itself in no time flat. No book I have ever read provides these points that one can do at home watching TV, reading, writing (use the other hand!) as long as you are relaxed while doing so and of course, breathing! Absolutely a must-have for everyone who wants the shortest distance between two points.

Having studied TCM and the energy movement arts for several years, I was so very glad to see it all integrated in one book....and by an author who lives, teaches, and practices these 'secrets'. How fortunate he is sharing them with us.
