Secrets of a Skinny Chef is excellent. I am not Martha Stewart or Rachael Ray yet enjoy cooking healthy, delicious meals for myself and my family. This cookbook is exactly what I need. The book has easy-to-find ingredients with simple instructions for each recipe. I've already made nine different recipes with it and they were super easy but very delicious. I have a son...

3.0 out of 5 stars Some good ideas
This cookbook has some good ideas if you just want some average tasting meals. It's better for the consumer who eats out a lot, gained a few pounds and is now ready to start being more healthy and cooking their meals at home.

I already cook healthy and live a good lifestyle so I was really looking for something that could help me come up with good dishes to...

I have a son that is a VERY picky eater and he loved everything I made. So far, I've made Supermoist Turkey Burgers, Sesame Chicken Hold the Deep-Fried Breading, Chicken "No Pot Belly" Pie, My Dad's Trim Chicken Enchiladas, Breaded Zucchini, Mayonnaise is Not Your Enemy Coleslaw, Broccoli Bacon Salad, Stir Fried Garlic Broccoli, Slender Blondie Brownies and Crustless Apple Pie....all delicious! The tips throughout the book are interesting and helpful. The recipes are so delicious and flavorful that you won't feel deprived. If you eat healthy, this book is for you!

This is more than a cookbook, it is a healthy eating bible. I have tried various recipes out of this book including banana bread (which came out moist and delicious) and meatball sandwiches (which the whole family loved)!!! I would reccommend this cookbook for anyone looking to cook healthy, delicious meals.

I already cook healthy and live a good lifestyle so I was really looking for something that could help me come up with good dishes to step it up. I tried a few of the recipes in this book and wasn't super impressed. They were good but not great to me and my family.

Good luck to those imbarking on a healthy new lifestyle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy and Light Recipes, March 31, 2010
This review is from: Secrets of a Skinny Chef: 100 Decadent, Guilt-Free Recipes (Paperback)
I have been a Skinny Chef fan for a couple of years and the tips and recipes I've received from the newsletters and website have provided me with ways to cook healthy meals for my family that they love. I am so excited that she has finally written a book! Try the Stuffed Shells recipe - its amazing! Pigs in a Blanket and Banana Cream Pie made light? Thank you Skinny Chef! Can't wait for the next book!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Only Cookbook I'll Use, December 15, 2011

I didn't want to knock off a star but I had to because this book follows the same stigma of every other healthy cooking book I've come across, what I mean is you find yourself buying a whole new cupboard of food like whole wheat flour (which doesn't quite fly with our gluten free restrictions) dijon mustard or sun-dried tomatoes and a whole lot of different cheeses - which isn't horrible because on the same tokens we like trying new things but unless you happen to have all of those items your gonna have to spend some time at the supermarket (and some cash), I did feel I had to buy a bunch of new ingredients to be able to cook a few items. It also just makes me feel a little bad (like I'm straying too much from the recipe) when I make substitutions myself.

What I do love about this cookbook format is that it is in the genre of eating and cooking that I'd like me and my family to be in (and its tasty enough that they aren't fussing). I can pick out about five recipes a week, shop for those recipes and follow them accordingly. The stuffed bell peppers were the best recipe so far and really surprised my family (we all never really had them before) and this book also gave me the courage to try a bunch of Italian recipes that I've always been too intimidated to try (lasagna or stuffed shells).

The separation of soups appetizers, breakfast, main-course was pretty nice too - although I can't see myself doing too many appetizers because main courses take long enough to follow. My sister loved the blender pancakes with bananas! Over all I really do cherish this book (you would be able to tell by all the different stains in it from using it while cooking) I wish there was a way to ease the ingredients into my pantry, yet once the smaller condiment stuff is in there, it is much easier to keep up.

5.0 out of 5 stars This twist on pot pie, October 6, 2011

We love chicken pot pies, but always found the crust to be too heavy. Jen gives a great receipe that is all natural and thin on the crust using phyllo dough. The book is easy to follow with easy ingredients and wonderful "skinny secret" tips on most pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy, wholesome food...and easy, too...., September 3, 2011

I love this book. To be honest, I was a little put off by the cover at first, because it looked somewhat generic. But after leafing through it, I decided to give it a try, and I was happy that I did. This book is anything but generic! I found the recipes to be easy to follow and, even better, to be really wholesome and healthy. Kudos to Ms. Iserloh and her philosophy about achieving and maintaining a healthy weight without gimmicks or synthetic ingredients! My favorite recipes included Cream of Broccoli soup with Cheddar, Stuffed Chicken Parmesan and the angel food cupcakes.
Yum.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, September 3, 2011

This review is from: Secrets of a Skinny Chef: 100 Decadent, Guilt-Free Recipes (Paperback)
I absolutely love this cookbook. Some of my favorite recipes are the Poolside Soup, Just like Takeout Sweet-and-Sour Chicken, and the heavenly Almond Dressing recipe. They are so easy and the directions are so clear. I can tell that a lot of work went into testing and re-testing each recipe because the results are consistently fantastic. The same cannot be said for just any recipe you find on the Internet. However, the Internet is precisely how I became acquainted with the Skinny Chef. Her blog is full of helpful hints for health and nutrition, and new recipes. Skinny Chef Jennifer Iserloh is the real deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars picky husband loves them all!, August 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
i have been cooking out of this book for the last two weeks, and my husband (who is somewhat picky, and definitely doesn't like diet food) has raved about every meal that i have cooked. similarly, my daughter would not let me put the macaroni and cheese away she was enjoying it so much, and she polished off the sloppy joe mix as if it was cake (which she also happens to love). the recipes are easy to follow, although ingredients are all listed in pounds and temperatures in fahrenheit so i have had to convert to metric (being australian), but i am just annotating the book as i go. there are not a lot of pictures, but the titles of the recipes make it fairly easy to predict which ones will become instant favourites. the recipes also use standard ingredients - no weird and wacky things that are impossible to find or will never be used again! and the servings are very generous. this book is a keeper, and will get used a lot in my house - i thoroughly recommend it.
