Book Description

April 22, 2008
Sixteen-year-old Sebby Wright holds a secret that threatens his mother--a secret from his past so murky even he can't see it clearly. When he tries to take his own life, psychiatrist Charlotte Blue suspects his problems are rooted in the accidental death of his father eleven years ago, and new fears of losing his mother to breast cancer. She recommends an intensive treatment program, where beating back his demons means facing horrible memories he buried long ago.

Since assuming her late husband's congressional seat, Glynn Wright has led a quiet life of devoted service and motherhood, earning a reputation as a dependable soldier in her party. She is prepared to sacrifice everything to save her son, including the revelation that she is a lesbian, a move that would likely mean the end of her political career, and estrangement from her family.

One by one, the secrets spill with devastating consequences for Glynn. Even Charlotte suffers from the fallout, as her faith in Glynn--and the growing attraction they can't resist--puts her at odds with her profession. Together, they search for the only thing that can save them--the truth about Glynn's husband's tragic death.

4.0 out of 5 stars Suspense to the end, May 26, 2008
This review is from: Secrets So Deep (Paperback)
KG MacGregor has written a book that is a little different from her earlier books and she does it well. Secrets So Deep is much more of a suspense novel, with the lead characters developing a relationship throughout the storyline. The romance angle is well written but is secondary to the unveiling of layers of secrets that build to the climax.

Each book this author has written brings forth her talents and this book shows another gain in her talented growth. The research needed to write the psychiatric portions of this book show the attention to detail she puts forth in all her books.

4.0 out of 5 stars A taut, well-paced psychological thriller, June 23, 2008

This review is from: Secrets So Deep (Paperback)
This book was well-plotted, with resilient, sympathetic characters embroiled in a family-drama-turned-legal-battle hinging on the ability of psychiatrists to accurately treat the distressed Sebby, son of Congresswoman Glynn Wright who took over her husband's seat upon his untimely death years ago, and was subsequently re-elected due to her dedicated service in representing part of rural Indiana.

In many ways this book provided a better glimpse with a more realistic feel into the inner workings of politics than The Candidate. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. I've long been a fan of this author's, and can really feel her growth with this outing. I remain impressed with her attention to detail, both in plot and characterization. Her characters consider action and consequence, their effects on others, the effects of others on them. They are well-drawn and distinct, and behave like human beings.

The ending wasn't a complete surprise, yet the author successfully kept the reader in suspense, since there were a series of possible conclusions, and up until the end I wondered how the author was going to resolve everything satisfactorily given the direction I'd felt she was taking it. Yet she did. Brilliantly.

Part psychological thriller, part court-room drama, with a background rooted in national politics and buoyed by a believable romance I would recommend this book to anyone for a riveting read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner from KG MacGregor!, June 16, 2008

This review is from: Secrets So Deep (Paperback)
As with all of KG MacGregor's books, Secrets So Deep is extremely well written. Right from the start it captivated me and kept me so involved that before I knew it, I had stayed up most of the night to get to the end and solve the mystery. The romance of Glynn and Charlotte is perfectly balanced against the mystery of Sebby's memories. If you've liked any of KG MacGregor's previous books, you'll love this one.
