Suspense to the end,
This review is from: Secrets So Deep (Paperback)
KG MacGregor has written a book that is a little different from her earlier books and she does it well. Secrets So Deep is much more of a suspense novel, with the lead characters developing a relationship throughout the storyline. The romance angle is well written but is secondary to the unveiling of layers of secrets that build to the climax.
Each book this author has written brings forth her talents and this book shows another gain in her talented growth. The research needed to write the psychiatric portions of this book show the attention to detail she puts forth in all her books.

A taut, well-paced psychological thriller,

This book was well-plotted, with resilient, sympathetic characters embroiled in a family-drama-turned-legal-battle hinging on the ability of psychiatrists to accurately treat the distressed Sebby, son of Congresswoman Glynn Wright who took over her husband's seat upon his untimely death years ago, and was subsequently re-elected due to her dedicated service in representing part of rural Indiana.
In many ways this book provided a better glimpse with a more realistic feel into the inner workings of politics than The Candidate. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. I've long been a fan of this author's, and can really feel her growth with this outing. I remain impressed with her attention to detail, both in plot and characterization. Her characters consider action and consequence, their effects on others, the effects of others on them. They are well-drawn and distinct, and behave like human beings. The ending wasn't a complete surprise, yet the author successfully kept the reader in suspense, since there were a series of possible conclusions, and up until the end I wondered how the author was going to resolve everything satisfactorily given the direction I'd felt she was taking it. Yet she did. Brilliantly. Part psychological thriller, part court-room drama, with a background rooted in national politics and buoyed by a believable romance I would recommend this book to anyone for a riveting read.

As with all of KG MacGregor's books, Secrets So Deep is extremely well written. Right from the start it captivated me and kept me so involved that before I knew it, I had stayed up most of the night to get to the end and solve the mystery. The romance of Glynn and Charlotte is perfectly balanced against the mystery of Sebby's memories. If you've liked any of KG MacGregor's previous books, you'll love this one.

A Great Read.,
This review is from: Secrets So Deep (Paperback)
KG has done it again. Although it is a little different than what she has previously written it is still done very well. Like all of her other books Great character development.
Once I started reading it I could not put it down. This book was not what I had expected but I was very pleasantly surprised. I fell in love with all three of the main characters, Charlotte, Glynn and Sebby. Sebby is struggling with the past that is buried so deep he would rather die than see it for what it truly is, while Charlotte and Glynn struggle with their attraction to each other which neither one can deny is there. There are some twists and turns along the way, but I don't want to give anything else away. This is a very good book. KG comes through again.

Fabulous fiction set in Washington DC,

The daily give and take, back door deals and vote for my legislation and I'll vote for yours of politics is perfectly depicted.
Glynn Wright is in her early forties and is an eleven year veteran of Capital Hill who took her husbands Republican seat when died suddenly. In addition to the machinations of her fellow congressmen she is battling breast cancer and the suicide attempt of her young son. Thirty-nine year old Psychiatrist Charlotte Blue has been in her current practice six years and briefly treats Glynn's son before admitting him to a treatment center. What transpires is a deep and lovely friendship full of caring that develops into so much more until Glynn's life becomes a headline. This is a fast paced novel that kept me reading from the first chapter eagerly wanting to know where the story would take me. Laugh out loud moments tickle you and keep you on your toes. If you like this novel don't miss the author's other titles - Worth Every Step Without Warning & Aftershock Mulligan The House on Sandstone

All Is Not Always As It Seems,

Bias alert - I am a HUGE fan of KG MacGregor. Although I try to be fair in my reviews, my adoration of the author sometimes colors my remarks. That said... here we go.
Imagine waking up one day to find yourself being arrested for a crime you didn't commit. That's exactly what happened to Glynn Wright. Of course, this was merely the icing on Glynn's proverbial cake of disaster. In the weeks before her arrest, her son had tried to commit suicide and was sent to a rehab center. He was initially seen by psychiatrist Charlotte Blue who recommended his treatment. Little did Charlotte or Glynn know it would turn out to be a disaster... for both Glynn's career and her son. I don't want to give away too much here. The book is a little more mature and developed than most in this genre (i.e., beware - there is some deep thinking required to fully embrace the story). I love both protagonists, but do think the psychiatry could have been more insightful. ` Bottom Line - It's a MacGregor book, so it's a given that I'd love it. For everyone else, it is certainly a thought-provoking book with some great plot twists and several colorful characters. Try it. I'm sure you'll like it.

Taut--Not, Entertaining Nonetheless,
By Ay Caramba (USA) - See all my reviews

MacGregor is one of my favorite authors. Really, she is. I liked the characters here. But to suggest as one reviewer did that it is was a taut psychological thriller would be like saying "Bittersweet" was a fun, breezy read. You can guess what happened fairly easily. But I gave this book four stars because it was still a fun ride and the characters were enjoyable. If I could I would have given it four-and-a-half stars because the author finally gives us a satisfying ending. Her books have traditionally just ended, which I hate. This one she gives us hopeless romantics some closure and a glimpse of something special for the main characters. I also think she writes some of the best sex scenes anywhere. ("Out of Love" was the best in that regard.) I just wish there were more sex scenes. But alas, the plot didn't allow for it. I am generally forgiving of gratuitous sex, but I know some reviewers are merciless. MacGregor (and other authors) should be commended for letting the characters and plot decide in that regard, though I would urge her gently and playfully that her next PLOT should incorporate more of it.

More depth to plot than other MacGregor romances,

If I was recommending just one book from KG MacGregor excellent repertoire of lesbian romances, this would be the one. MacGregor balances the legal issues, psychology and politics to provide a rich backdrop to the romance. The characters all have depth and the intricate layers of the plot work well together (though I did have to suspend belief a little for Glynn's willingness to sacrifice so much for Sebby). The resolution is believable and unexpected without being too forced, providing a small element from the crime fiction genre as well.

An excellent thriller,

KG MacGregor is consistently an excellent writer and this book is no exception. Kudos! This is a psychological thriller with interesting twists and an unexpected ending: I liked the glimpse at power structures at Washington and the 180 degree opposite of rural America. Great main characters.
