5.0 out of 5 stars A very informative documentary, April 24, 2001

This review is from: The Secrets of the Warrior's Power: Kung Fu [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This was an excellent overview of the history of Chinese Kung-Fu with an emphasis on the development of the Shaolin systems of Northern China. As a long-time student of history, and kung-fu practicioner, I highly recommend this video.

This video is a documentary which introduces the viewer to the basic history and common knowledge of kung fu. For a martial artist, this video won't be very interesting because it is made for people who have no previous knowledge of kung fu, it intruduces them to the basic concepts of the art. In this video they discuss and explain chi, forms, weapons, the basic history of kung fu, different styles, etc.. There is lots of footage of people doing forms, and a few good clips of monks filmed at the Shaolin Temple. If you don't have any experience with kung fu, and you want to learn about it, or if you are just starting kung fu, I recommend this video. But if you already study kung fu and are familiar with it's basic concepts, this video will probably not be
very interesting to you.

I gave this video 4 stars because it was pretty informative and interesting, but some of the information was a little off.

This is one of the best documentaries on Kung Fu, and branching arts. It shows the monks and how they train... this is scary. The stuff they do, and what they put themselves through, is amazing. I have more respect then ever for Kung fu.

5.0 out of 5 stars N.Shaolin is the stuff !!!!, June 14, 1999
This review is from: The Secrets of the Warrior's Power: Kung Fu [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I'm a martial artist and never saw shaolin kung-fu.I never saw it until a few years ago at a demo and later,I went to the tonight show with Jay Leno and I saw them their.Jay had announced they would be touring so,I went to see them on tour. The way they moved showed so much strength and grace I couldn't it. And, what they could do using"hard chi-kung"was amazing. This tape showed every thing and more.Sifu Shi Yan-Ming was great as well as the other masters in the video.I always wanted to learn shaolin kung-fu and become as good as one of the monks. So,I think I'll attend his school, the U.S.A. shaolin temple in New York,NY.He also has a website.
