1.0 out of 5 stars Western Tantra? Not even close.
This book, as was Hyatt's other book 'Sex magic, Tantra and Tarot' were a great disappointment. To insinuate that these are secrets of western Tantra is a pretty sad. I live in the west and this is not the Sex Magic and Tantra that I adhere to. Personally, I don't believe that after spending months to get a better orgasm, I'm going to become enlightened. The techniques in this book have had a very profound effect on me. It is a very rigorous program that combines Reichian breathing techniques (similar to rebirthing/hyperventilating) and prolonged sexual ecstacy in an attempt to activate each of the chakras in turn. The big difference with this tantric technique is that unlike most forms of Eastern Tantra, the focus is actually having an orgasm...not an ordinary orgasm but a fully body orgasm that will send you outside space and time. Believe me it will blow your mind! But as I said, the preparations are rigorous and requires real work and committment over a long period of time to obtain the results (several months on the non-sexual pre-exercises alone). It has had a profound effect on my life (for the good) and I wholeheartedly recommend this book and the techniques in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Negative Reviews Speak for Themselves, July 7, 2008
This review is from: Secrets of Western Tantra: The Sexuality of the Middle Path (Paperback)
Looking at the negative reviews you see exactly what Hyatt spends a lot of time in his book criticising. So called "Tantrics" who arn't even liberated enough to leave behind their own sexual prejudices and spiritual boogeymen. If you arn't prepared to face both your "higher" and "lower" Self then you would best leave this Work alone.
This is the best work I've read concerning Tantra. Most other Tantra books spend chapter after chapter obsessing about particulars concerning chakra details, a topic which this book deals with in one chapter. The rest is left up to the student to explore through WORK. It's the seeming simplicity of the instructions which causes this book to be so effective. Instead of endless pious affirmations towards a vauge "goddess," Hyatt's techniques put you into a mental state where the Goddess slowly becomes revealed in all her ineffible Glory (or Horror for some).
If you are really willing to LET GO and experience the Dance of Shiva, I heavily recommend this book as a cornerstone of practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars rebirth of your Goddess, May 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Secrets of Western Tantra: The Sexuality of the Middle Path (Paperback)
Secrets of Western Tantra preporatory practise demands one or two hours per week to perform a set of techniques. The actual movements given are Neo Reichian, Yogic, Tantric and Taoist. All tension is released with the breath and dissolved with your sense of feeling. It is hark work, no doubt about it. Its revealed tension and memories and makes me cry, shout AND laugh. Given me a few experiences that I wasn't prepared for, a feeling that a powerful 'energy' was radiating from my hips. It was so strong that members of the opposite sex felt it 15 feet away. Its given rise to a relaxed arousel that can be amplified to insane levels at will. One of the goals of the book is to develop the ability to have 'true' orgasms were the wholebody is involved. I haven't got there yet. The only reqiurement is practise, practise, practise.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Real" Methods with "Real" Results!!!, November 17, 2010
I've had this book for at least 12 years now and I regard it, along with Dr. Hyatt's "Undoing Yourself with Energized Meditation and Other Devices," as the most important books on magic in my library...a vast library of at least 3,000 books.
The Neo-Reichian approach has been unimaginably effective in freeing up storehouses of energy in my body-mind, which I use for Sorcerous endeavors.
For the past 11 years, I've been in a Circle relationship (1 male [me] with 2 bisexual females) and we are serious practitioners of Tantric Sex Magick. Knowing that what is considered orgasm by "normal" standards is unacceptable by True Tantric standards, I taught my women the Methods in this book, along with the Methods in Dr. Hyatt's "Undoing" & "Energized Hypnosis" DVDs and CDs. Their experiences of the so-called "Kundalini" and their experiences full, un-earthly Orgasms skyrocketed. When this vast amount of energy is utilized for Magickal Work, it helps to yield phenomenal results. The thing is, you have to actually DO THE WORK, not just read about the Work and dismiss it...or even worse...read about the Work and consider yourself a Master Sorcerer because you read it.
For those who want to actually experience this the "Kundalini" of the Tantrikas, get this book and DO THE WORK.

5.0 out of 5 stars The techniques work. Make them part of your everyday life and you will have results., July 29, 2011
This book is probably the most important book I have read som far. The ideas and theories are intresting but that's not the reason for it's importance. It's the fusion of Reichian* Techniques, Yoga, and tantra. Reich's techniques are, from my point of view, by far the most important component. If you want to become a happier and more harmonious person, read this book and get to work.

Note: there is more detailed descriptions of Reich's work on the net.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good work on Western Tantra, July 2, 2011

I am currently following the instructions giving by Dr. Hyatt and have found it beneficial thus far! I must warn potential buyers and others who are thinking of dabbling into this work.... You can't dabble in this, it actually requires effort ont he part of the reader. The several months of no gential stimulation alone is the biggest test of the will, but it's worth it. There is enough time in the day to practice the material given and it's very easy to follow. I highly recommend this excellent work by Dr. Hyatt. I wish I could have discovered it sooner!

This is another Hyatt classic.how many people have actually taken the techniques presented here as far as they can? i wonder how many thought it all sounds too much hard work? this is no quick fix. But it is a route to exstacy, that works if you do. You get out what you put in. inside you will find modern techniques on how to open up each chakra area, which in turn will release the kundalini. simple!!!!

As a fan of Christopher Hyatt's it's not likely that I would say anything bad about anything written by him because I've never found anything to criticize or complain about. He is one of the most intelligent and sensible psychologists and occultists I have ever run across. Certainly we need a tantra designed for Westerners just as we need a government designed for Americans, not European socialists/communists. I think one of the most interesting comments he makes in this book, which was written in 1989, is on page 43 where he talks about the "Instant Titty" being a 60's fantasy first created by Dr. Benjamin Spock (No, this is not Mr. Spock of Star Trek. This is a pediatrician that many young parents of the 60's thought was God. If you don't like the way a lot of people born during those years act, you can blame him). Hyatt goes on further to say that the children of the 60's demand instant gratification as well as no competition, no frustration and no struggle for life. They have developed notions of mystical equality where all individual differences would be summed and a golden mean achieved, in other words communism, which has been clandestinely embraced in the Christian West; that is, in my words, not his, until now. These are the people who elected Barack Obama. They want the world changed to their vision of how it should be, and they want it done now, just like Obama, no matter what the consequences, possibly because neither they nor he have thought far enough ahead to figure out what the consequences might be. Hyatt calls them "elegant consumers, waiting to be fed just because they are HERE." In other words it's all "ME, ME, ME" and "NOW, NOW, NOW."

This is a small book, but as in all of Hyatt's books that I have read, he packs it full of information and good advice, but if your mind is closed, don't bother to read it because you won't like it. Another quote I like that appears on page 138 is "There is little Love in this world. However, there is much talk of it. Those who talk so much are in love with the idea of love; however, on close examination they know nothing of it. If there were all this Love in the world then why is the world so unhappy? Why is there so much misery, frustration and madness?" Why indeed?

1.0 out of 5 stars Western Tantra? Not even close., January 9, 2006

This review is from: Secrets of Western Tantra: The Sexuality of the Middle Path (Paperback)
This goes against all precepts of Alchemy. Our sexual energy is our creative energy. Either this is utilised to create another physical life or it can be utilised to create higher spirituality. How is one to sublimate, fecundate etc with the elements lying on the ground?

Would you like to create a magical child that will be born without any karma? Hyatt even states (pg 131) that you will gain personal immortality through this magical child. Wow instant enlightenment. This is stuff from Aleister Crowley and the Ordo Templi Orientis (O.T.O).

If your into solidifying or creating more ego's, you'll also love this book i.e. "The personal and interpersonal effort, coupled with the power of the sexual instinct, mixed with the meditative forces, creating a relativization of the ego - a process quite distinct from the popular notion that the ego must be destroyed". For those who don't quite grasp this, the egoic structure is the impostor of the true self. Close your eyes and look at your thoughts for a while, these are the constant chatterings of the ego(s); a cause of our unconsciousness and miseries, the dross that inevitably must be purged. Monks, sages, adepts, initiates, guru's, masters, meditators, fakir's etc, have for thousands of years aimed at stilling the mind and nullify/destroying the ego, not creating tidal waves. But for the blessed blade of Kali!

"So how do you go about acquiring a demon lover?" Pg 183 sub heading. This is an endorsed section in the appendix of the book, written by Phil Hine. I did a Google search and stumbled upon a link at Phil Hines website with the heading of ER UT TI NS. This gave me an e-book of the heading `Permutations'. The third chapter of this book was entitled `sodomy as spiritual fulfilment'. This chapter is about Phil's sodomy experience with his boyfriend at the time.

From the Demon Lover that you have conjured using Phil's Exo (i.e. ego) magic or "Cacodemonic Copulations" I mentioned above, Pages 186 - 188 then gives you some hints to try to get rid of this demon lover that is now out of control. Seriously, this is about having sex with demons i.e. Succubus and Incubus and perhaps worse. The author even says so. This book is essentially about sex magic of a very dark calibre - black magic. If you're into black magic, then you could read another of Hyatt's books i.e. "Pacts with the devil" ISBN: 1561840580. Personally I would not recommend this i.e. Play with fire and you'll get burned, literally.

It is of interest to me how the following authors endorse, preface and are featured in appendixes etc i.e. Christopher S. Hyatt, Lon Milo DuQuette, Phil Hine and Robert Anton Wilson. From what I have discovered of recent, I would not be in any hurry to read the books associated with these authors.
