ABSOLUTELY NOT THE BEST ON OUR CRAFT!,

This review is from: Secrets of the Unknown - Witches [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I find it a little worrisome that someone would chose this particular tape to teach others about Wicca. I am in no way judging anyone, just sharing my thoughts and suggestions as a fellow witch.... Since this production was made in the 80's much of it is extremely sensationalized and cheesy and some of it untrue. I own this tape but have not seen it for some time so I cannot point out specifics to you. If you really want a GOOD, factual tape about the history of and modern witches, I'd HIGHLY recommend Intimate Portraits: Witches, by Lifetime. It's truly wonderful, narrated by Angelica Huston and features Cabot as well as Z Budapest. And if you would really like to invest in something educational and totally wonderful (being a Loreena Mckennitt fan helps as well since she does the soundtrack for this one...) is a trilogy of documentaries called Women and Spirituality. The three tapes therein are called Burning Times, Goddess Remembered and Full Circle. Features Margot Adler, Merlin Stone and Starhawk. Very very powerful and educational. After you see the two films I have suggested you might not think Secrets of the Unknown is the BEST on our Craft out there. Good luck with your studies and teaching and may the Gods shine up on you always!

Factual and true. The greatest Video I have seen on our Craft. Great for those who are teaching new initiants, or for those who wish to show, a non-pagan friend who and what we are. As a teacher, I have found showing this to my students in the beginning of their training to be quite useful.

Secrets of the Unknown.. somewhat explained,

This review is from: Secrets of the Unknown - Witches [VHS] (VHS Tape)
After reading both the good and bad reviews, I went ahead and bought this. I watched it with my Pagan Study group, and we had a pretty good laugh. The special effects are corny, and most of the information on their sources and other data are flashed on and off the screen so fast you can not really read them. They do not discuss Eclectic Witchcraft at all. BUT!!!! The information from actual practicioners is good. In fact, they represent themselves and the Craft very well. If you take into account the cheesy effects and when it was produced, it is a good tape to have to explain what what Witches are and what they do. Not to deep, but enough to answer the more common questions.
