You tried to resist it, but the palm-size, cotton candy-colored iPod Mini proved too alluring to live without! Knowing that you'll want to learn all of its secrets--plus those of its big-sibling iPod and the newly updated iTunes 4.7 as well--trusted Mac teacher Christopher Breen has thoroughly updated his best- selling guide to the world's most popular digital music player. You'll learn the all-important basics of downloading, storing, and indexing your music plus all that's new in iTunes 4.7: the iMix feature, which lets you upload playlists to the iTunes Music Store (where other users can browse and even rate them); jewel-case printing; additional iTunes Music Store features (such as radio charts and a dedicated music video section); and more. You'll also find guidance for accessorizing and protecting your iPod and iPod Mini, tips for making the most of your storage capabilities, and troubleshooting advice for those moments when the diminutive device is uncooperative.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not enough information of value, February 24, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Secrets of the iPod and iTunes, 5th Edition (Paperback)
I am disappointed with this book.

The first complaint is that it doesn't include the IPod Video, yet it sells itself as having the latest information.

The second complaint is that it includes way too much information on previous generations of IPods. I don't care about first and second generation controls and think this information just makes it harder to get through the book.

The third complaint is that there isn't very much information that you don't get from just using the IPod. In about ten minutes, you know what the menu options are and it isn't terribly hard to figure out how to select a playlist, for example. I was hoping for more in-depth information like cool things to do with the hard disk without having to go through ITunes.

The basic problem I have with this book is that it's trying to be the missing manual, conveniently leaving out the kind of access that Apple doesn't really want you have. If it didn't include so much information on previous generations of the IPod, it might have been a decent manual. Now its all the manuals shoved together.

4.0 out of 5 stars iPod manual does the job, July 11, 2005
This review is from: Secrets of the iPod and iTunes, 5th Edition (Paperback)
Since Apple doesn't include an iPod manual for us older generation linear types who actually like to read the instructions, this book will do fine. Like most computer books it's a bit padded out, but it gave me the information I wanted.

This is a great reference book for my iPod. I'm new to iPod and whenever I don't understand something I just go to this book and I usually get my answer.
