I want Kenzie!!!,

First off, let me say, if you have not read any of the 'Highlander' books then you would probably enjoy this book. But if you have, then you'd doubtless feel like me...
I'm a big fan of MS Chapman's but this book was not one of my favourites. I had this book on auto-buy and waited impatiently to find out what happened. After all the build up and torturous waiting-Oh boy, what a let down. Sigh! What I wanted was for Kenzie to be the hero. If you read the last book,'Only with a Highlander,' you'd see what I mean. For me, it's kinda hard to reconcile to the fact that Jack was the hero, especially when pitted against all those alpha highlanders. The story was the weakest of the series. Jack wasn't a very strong character, perhaps if he was written as a beta hero, it would have worked better. Then his character wouldn't have to compete with those uber males, because it just makes him come across as clumsy. Megan on the other hand was a better developed character, and in my opinion far more suited to Kenzie. I though she forgave Jack far to easily after he hurt her so badly. There's no excuse for him to behave like a jerk when she told him she was pregnant. He could have found a better way to send her away from danger. And the Mark Collins issue was not handled well at all. For those of you who read this book, you have to agree, the few scenes Kenzie did appear in, especially with Megan sparked with chemistry, despite the authors several references to their relationship as that of siblings. Is she kidding? They jumped right out the book and grabbed you! No wonder the author made Kenzie disappear so quickly from the book, cause Jack would have stood no chance against him. (the sparks between Kenzie and Megan alone would doubtless knock Jack right out the story) A nice theme for this series, that the heroine could only get pregnant from the man she's suppose to marry, but NOT for this book! This was suppose to be a 'Highlander' book, so then where's the highlander?! (And I don't mean secondary characters, because I read all their stories!) and please don't say it was Megan. Oh well, lets hope Kenzie's story is a better one.

Disappointing,

Having read the other books in the series I couldn't wait to find out what was in store for Megan MacKeage. The 5th book in the series "Only with a Highlander" left such an opening for this book and yet it fell flat. I agree with the others reviewing this book I thought that Megan would be with Kenzie and yet he was written off almost has a bad guy until the end. What was with all the blushing on Jack's part anyways? The villian of the story was "Mark Collins" he never even surfaced as a charactor other than his name. I understand how Jack "fixed" the situation but yet I felt like that part of the story was boring. How about seeing how Matt Gregor caused the natural disaster? What was Mark Collins reaction? How did Mark's henchman die? How was it Robbie was at the house?
Jack's storyline proved interesting and different from the others, Yet it didn't really tie in with the title "secrets of a Highlander" when he wasn't a highlander nor is Megan. Kenzie had an interesting start in the first chapter where he discovered that he could talk to animals and yet there no mention of this again. My other issues with this book and the others are the inconsistencies, for example Priest Daar is 1492 years old in the first book, but is 1800 years old in the 6th book (but only 38 years have gone by) or that in the end of the first book the seven girls were born in the first 8 years, but in the 6th book it was a span of 10 years? In the first book "Charming a Highlander" Father Daar tells Grace that her 7th child will become a Druid when she turns seventy. There is no mention that for this to happen that she cannot have children. Yet this becomes a big concern in "Only with a Highlander" While some may call it "nit picking" if you are going to write a series the facts should stay the same and how the author or her editors did not pick up these errors are beyond me. There are other issues with the books like missing details or whatever happen to this person. Some picking up the 5th book would have no idea who Rose was or what did Callum think when he found out that Charlotte was pregant? When did Charlotte finally tell him ("Loving the Highlander")? Whatever happened to Robbie's other foster children? Did he take the other two in the judge wanted him to? Sadly, we will never know. The stories are interesting, but are missing details that would make them better. I am glad that I didn't spend over $6.99 for the books. While I enjoyed the Highlanders series, I won't be rushing out to buy any more of her books.

As a huge fan of Janet Chapman, I couldn't wait to get my hands on SOTH because I loved all of the other characters in the series. However, I have to say that I was disappointed in this book. First of all, I wanted Megan to end up with Kenzie. I guess I thought that since the book was titled Secrets of the HIGHLANDER that an actual highlander would be a main character, well I thought wrong.
The other thing that really bothered me was that Jack came across as weak and clumsy and he blushed too much. He certainly wasn't the typical alpha male like the other men in the series. I also thought that Megan let him back into her life way too easy after he broke her heart and didn't contact her for months. Otherwise, the book was just OK, the storyline was not as interesting as the other books, there was very little romance and the dragon in the story was just out of place.

I gave the story three stars because, while still in line with Ms. Chapmans wonderful writing style, i was very much looking forward to a story about Kenzie and Megan. I felt the story was a let down beacause i was looking forward so much to reading their story.

Secrets of the Highlander,
This review is from: Secrets of the Highlander (Mass Market Paperback)
Megan MacKeage is one of the seven, very independent daughters of Laird MacKeage who, many know from the other Highlander books. She has returned home pregnant and fuming at her bad instincts. The man she fell in love with, and the father of her child, (Wayne Ferris), dropped her like a hot potato when she told him of her love and pregnancy. She is just starting to venture out after spending some time "licking her wounds" when suddenly everyone is trying to set her up with the town's new sheriff.
What will happen when it turns out that the new sheriff (Jack Stone) is none other than the man Megan knew as Wayne Ferris. He claims to have followed her because he loves her. He states that he sent her away for her protection, yeah right. Can Megan ever trust this secretive man again? Lord knows her body recognizes him. Unfortunately, the former highlander Kenzie has asked Megan to help him with two special projects and sworn her to secrecy. Will these secrets cause her and Jack to never be able to come together or will they work through their differences and form the family unit that both want? Secrets of the Highlander is a wonderful addition to the Highlander Series by Janet Chapman. The book is completely a stand-alone story, but those who have followed the entire series will also be drawn back into the lives of a few "friends". I loved how Grace gives Megan advice that is always right on, but also doesn't force the advice on her girls, unless they ask for it. Additionally, Ms. Chapman writes about strong women who in their own ways are "warriors", though their men might not originally agree, unless they stop to think about it. I can hardly wait for Camy to find her match, and I hope she has her own book coming out. Ms. Chapman definitely has a winner with Secrets of the Highlander. Tanya reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Every once in a while, it's nice to see a hero who isn't six feet six inches tall, weighing 200 plus pounds of solid muscle, with a foot long penis.
Megan may not have been my favourite female character, but I really liked Jack/Wayne.

I read each and every book from this series in order and nonstop. OMG...What an amazing experience Granted there were some characters that I loved thoughout the series. One of the things that most impressed me is we really get to see the happily ever after throughout the series.
If you have the money and can afford to buy the whole set, that is the experience that you are shooting for from this author. Chapman is creative funny, and sincere with these characters and you feel the love between main players as well as the family they have around them. After all those books I was still left wanting more. I passed my set to my sister. She calls me at the end of each one to discuss the new characters, the new dynamic they'll create in future novels in the series. Truly a fun read. The best read since my first historical romance (Knight in Shining Armor).
