Book Description

By NY Times Bestselling Author and former Green Beret Bob Mayer

Over five million books sold. Translated into over a dozen languages.

Section 8: The men and women called upon by The Organization to do the impossible. They are the soldiers who have nothing to lose. They make up a top–secret unit tasked with what others call suicide missions.

The Organization pulled strings long before the founding of the United States. It dates back to the destruction of the Knights Templar and even further in history. As secrets from the Golden Lilly Operation and the infamous Unit 731 from World War II become exposed, you have to wonder who the real enemy is.

Captain Jim Vaughn is an officer in disgrace. Commanding a Special Forces mission to rescue hostages in the Philippines, Vaughn's team is destroyed, and when the smoke clears, he is the one made the scapegoat. Forced into the shadows by the scandal, Vaughn is offered a chance to redeem himself when he is approached by an enigmatic government agent working for The Organization looking for a few desperate men.

Vaughn is shocked to meet his new teammates, a group of men and women outside of the regular chain of command. These are soldiers who have used up all their second chances. These are men and women who have crossed the line one too many times. Drug users. Felons. The terminally ill. These are now the soldiers that Vaughn must trust with his life. Even with a traitor in their ranks. But is the traitor actually the patriot?

This group of misfits has been assembled for two reasons––they are skilled, and they are expendable. These are the kinds of men and women who are needed to attempt missions the government can't acknowledge, the country can't condone, and the team cannot fail. But the deeper Vaughn gets into the unique group, the more he realizes that The Organization may be concealing more than the rap sheets of its most unusual operators. A team of such unique properties is the perfect tool to use against America's enemies...and possibly America itself.

About the Author

West Point Graduate, former Green Beret and NY Times bestselling author Bob Mayer has had over 50 books published. He has sold over five million books, and is in demand as a team-building, life-changing, and leadership speaker and consultant for his Who Dares Wins concept. Born in the Bronx, Bob attended West Point and earned a BA in psychology with honors and then served as an Infantry platoon leader, a battalion scout platoon leader, and a brigade recon platoon leader in the 1st Cavalry Division. He joined Special Forces and commanded a Green Beret A Team. He served as the operations officer for 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and with Special Operations Command (Special Projects) in Hawaii. Later he taught at the Special Forces Qualification Course at the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, the course which trains new Green Berets. He lived in Korea where he earned a Black Belt in Martial Arts. He's earned a Masters Degree in Education. Mayer's obsession with mythology and his vast knowledge of the military and Special Forces, mixed with his strong desire to learn from history, is the foundation for his science fiction series Atlantis, Area 51 and Psychic Warrior. Mayer is a master at blending elements of truth into all of his thrillers, leaving the reader questioning what is real and what isn't. He took this same passion and created thrillers based in fact and riddled with possibilities. His unique background in the Special Forces gives the reader a sense of authenticity and creates a reality that makes the reader wonder where fact ends and fiction begins. Mayer's military background, coupled with his deep desire to understand the past and how it affects our future, gives his writing a rich flavor not to be missed. He has taught organizations ranging from Maui Writers, to Whidbey Island Writers, to San Diego State University, to the University of Georgia, to the Romance Writers of America National Convention, to Boston SWAT, the CIA, Fortune-500, the Royal Danish Navy Frogman Corps, Microsoft, Rotary, IT Teams in Silicon Valley and many others. He has also served as a Visiting Writer for NILA MFA program in Creative Writing. He has done interviews for the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Sports Illustrated, PBS, NPR, the Discovery Channel, the SyFy channel and local cable shows. For more information see and

5.0 out of 5 stars FAST PACED THRILLER May 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Bob Mayer is an amazing creative writer. This is a fast paced action thriller about an organization that has made decisions for the world for centuries. In present day, military men and women who have failed or screwed up a mission assignment were recruited by this organization. They thought that they were still working for the government, but Tai and Vaughn found out they weren't after someone tried to kill them. This book is hard to put down once you start reading. I could definitely read this book a second time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Black Ops Section 8 April 29, 2013

I loved this book except I have a hard time concentrating for a long time so I got confused with who all these characters were. It kept jumping back and forth from one situation to another and started to drive me nuts! You need to have the ability to concentrate on so many different situations and remember who was where last! But I love Black Ops books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Black Ops Section 8 October 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
All of Bob Mayer's Black Ops novels are excellent and keep you glued to your book. I have read all of Mr. Mayer's novels and have been very entertained. Black Ops Section 8 is one of the best. I recommend all of Mr. Mayer's books. If you like this kind of story line, you will love the Black Ops Series.

4.0 out of 5 stars engrossing read June 25, 2012

Bob Mayer keeps the adrenaline going on this one. Poor editing (syntax and spelling) kept this from being 5 stars. The Section-8 gal with the martial skills is fairly un-believable as is her drop onto a submarine but hey, its entertainment. Characters are developed just enough to question their motives, but not enough that you feel trapped in their cloying thought processes.

A very good book once I became engaged full of lively characters, plenty of action and an interesting storyline. Where I found it lacking was the somewhat confusing manner in which it was organized and the typos as mentioned by others like this passage "It was a fruidess exercise..." page 127 Loc 2979 (rather surprising given this is a NYT bestseller and this was the fifth book in the series). Lots of more memorable passages I enjoyed from the book including "They were words he had hoped to never hear", "What good is vengeance?...It will not bring back the dead." and "He couldn't just tender a resignation because that was the same as retirement and he'd seen how that went." No doubt I'd read more of Bob Mayer in the future and this would have been a 5 star book with proper editing.

A great book that was action packed from beginning to end. The author knows a lot about military tactics and equipment. Section eight is a great crew very reminiscent of the dirty dozen. I will be reading more from this author.
