Book Description

July 1, 2009 1845230744 978-1845230746 1st Ed.

With stories that create vividly sensual pictures of place and powerfully dramatic tension, this collection features characters that are driven by desire—for dignity and justice for a dead son, for privacy from a neighbor who collects lives, for sexual fulfillment, and for blocking the memories of a destructive past. Characters migrate between stories, just as they migrate between Trinidad and New York, sometimes at the fringe and sometimes at the center, but always acting as a window into the lives and minds of Trinidadians as seen through Nimblett’s empathetic eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it!!! November 10, 2009
Format:Paperback
I couldn't put this book down - its mesmerizing and magical and exotic and poetic, and yet very simply written. I felt like I was in Trinidad right next to these characters living these experiences - what a beautiful trip... I love it! Get this book now (you can thank me later:)

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb and richly detailed collection September 15, 2010
Format:Paperback
Nimblett manages the lovely trick of making the characters both accessible and shadowed--in other words, just like people we all know. Though generally spare, the stories herein are laden with a charismatic pull. At the end of most of the stories, I had a tiny, "Oh! It's over!" feeling . . . that's how involved I felt and had to come back to the surface and shake myself. This is a superb collection of stories by a very skilled writer.
