Excellent Product,

Before obtaining this product I had never attempted to erase a hard drive. The easy to follow directions took me through the process step by step. I also liked the certificate that you may print after you have completed the program. I have already provided a copy of one to the individual who previously owned the PC.

I used SecurErase 8 on an old computer that I was giving away. The instructions were easy, that was important to me. It worked good. I will keep it in my library in case I need to use it again on another computer.

Good Software but could be difficult for some,

Great software. But, if you are using a USB CD/DVD player/writer then you will have to make a bootable disk (i.e. floppy disk) with the program on it and run it from there. It will not run from USB driven devices. Since I have floppys disks and drives, I didn't have a problem with it. It will also not erase USB driven drives. So, if you have a USB drive, you will have to remove the drive out of the enclosure, and install it into your computer (or you can use ESATA or a hotswap bay if you happen to have them). Then you can erase.

Could not run program,
This review is from: SecurErase 8: Permanently Erase Your Hard Drive (CD-ROM)
Could not get this program to run and I'm not sure what the problem was. The disk would show the first screen but I could never get the program to load or run. The PDF manual is very poor and does not have any troubleshooting info and the company does not offer telephone support for this product. I tried an email and did not get a response. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong but since there was no help available, it was quite frustrating.
If you are tech savvy this may be a fine program for you but I finally gave up after trying to get it to run several times.

Bad Instructions,
This review is from: SecurErase 8: Permanently Erase Your Hard Drive (CD-ROM)
I'd say this product was bad for a non-techie user. There were no instructions and, even though there was a graphic that showed my computer was "clean," I never was totally sure that it had done what I wanted it to. I'm assuming it did and I gave away my PC but I'm still not 100% comfortable.

This product will definitely clean your system. If you utilize the government clean erase, which is the equivalent of the government's process of erasing data off their computers, it will take 6-8 hours. I utilized this option, started the gov. clean erase before I went to bed, the next morning the process was complete. When you reinstall your operating system back to its original configuration from your restore CDs, make sure that you take out any hardware (memory pci's or pci-e cards) which you have installed (not a part of the original desk top) out of your box. I forgot this and so I kept getting blue screens, error messages, and basically a dead computer when trying to restore my Windows system. I freaked thinking SecurErase destroyed my computer. But I took the hardware out, through back in the installation disks, recovered my system, rebooted my system, powered down, then reinstalled my extra memory and pci-e cards, fired it back up and my computer is back online. If you want to make sure that your system is back to it's `original' operating system, this is the way to go.

It would have been nice if they included a floppy. I wasted 40 dollars on
this because I came to the part where they said I needed a floppy and didn't have one. And didn't have time to go out and buy one. Putting a floppy in the package would have cost them all of 25 cents.
