Wow! It was very refreshing and encouraging to read such a clear explanation of the Good News of Salvation by Faith alone in Jesus Christ. All the key verses from the Bible on the subject are clearing presented and explained. And many of the common miss understandings about the Gospel are clearly and thoroughly explained. Reading how we are saved by believing in Jesus as our Savior, and that eternal life is a free gift of God received by grace and not by any works or "worthiness" of our own, is how I came to understand the message of salvation back in 1976, and continue believing and sharing to this day. I am not only going to "recommend" this book, I am going to buy many copies to share with my fellow brethren, and any one who is seeking to understand the truth about what Jesus did for mankind by His death on the cross. This is a message that needs to be shared with everyone who "has ears to hear". And it is a wonderfully thing to know that one is secure as a Child of God ( born again by trusting in Jesus Christ ), and having received by faith a forgiveness and righteous standing that can not be taken away ( as we are kept by the power of God and not our own ), that is not dependent on our personal "goodness" or "faithfulness" is a powerful truth that must be shared. I hope some day to thank the author in person for sharing these simple truths in his book.

I rarely finish books that do not at least contain plenty of Scriptures to reference, whether I agree with their premise or not. Otherwise, I am just wasting my time on man's opinion or their 'scholarly' prowess.

This book thoroughly and patiently lays out the meaning of the "P" in TULIP. What Calvinist say it means from their viewpoint vs. what the Word teaches about God's Preservation of those are His. It is balanced and I believe you will finish with a complete understanding not only of the teaching, but your own assurance of salvation because of what Christ as done.

Perseverance of the Saints does NOT = Eternal Security.

John MacArthur says that Perseverance of the Saints is SYNONYMOUS with Lordship Salvation teachings. (No, we do not deny He is our Lord, for those Lordship proponents who state we only want to accept Him as Savior).

So, if you are a Calvinist, or even an Arminian who also believes you must persevere. You will wonder until the day you die if you are actually one of the elect. Maybe you'll even wonder if you persevered enough, or if you are able to persevere or not.

If you are unsure of what it all means, and would like to see both sides in order to understand, I think you will appreciate the book. Again, plenty of Scriptural backbone in this book (laid out in an orderly and organized manner for you to examine), I would highly recommend you read.

Please consider reading this and look up each reference in context, I do not think you will be disappointed.
In His love. (redeemingmoments dot com)

This is an outstanding book on the eternal security and assurance of the believer, based upon the myriad of promises in Scripture, not upon one's own good works. Dr. Cucuzza writes in an easy-to-read style, biblically based in every way; the book is suitable for the scholar and the young believer alike. His points are logical and sound, being completely supported by multiple explicit texts from the Bible. He carefully and irrefutably dismantles the false doctrine of "perseverance," proffering instead the true biblical doctrine of "preservation," which he defines, "God's faithfulness in keeping us saved" (page 51). He also cites a candid admission from a leading lordship salvation advocate John MacArthur that, "lordship salvation is nothing other than the doctrine of perseverance!" (page 89).
For additional reading on the same subject, I recommend, So Great Salvation, by Charles C. Ryrie. Be challenged and enjoy!

Today's teaching on salvation is dominated by an emphasis on "life-style assurance;" that is, the idea that assurance of salvation comes, not through reliance on the finished work of Christ and the promises of the Father, but based on evidence of change in the life of the converted. Reformed and Arminian teachers alike affirm that "man is saved through Faith alone," but often insist on tempering the good news of the Gospel with an insistence that REAL saving faith is "never alone." They maintain that true faith is ALWAYS accompanied by works, thereby introducing doubt in the minds of beliers who continue to struggle with the reality of sin in their lives (and introducing an implicit requirement of works for salvation - either to prove our election (Reformed), or to maintain it (Arminian)). The author provides a thoughtful and concise rebuttal to the prevailing soteriology of the day in a book that can be finished on a rainy afternoon.

I received this book yesterday, finished it last night and passed it on to a co-worker this morning. This book provides a very clear explanation of salvation by Grace through faith alone in Christ alone. It debunks the false teachings of "perserverance of the saints" and Lordship salvation. The book gives clear examples, from scripture, of the lives of believers with differing levels of faithfulness. Some of them ended this life tragically, due to their sin and unfaithfulness. But, the destiny of each of these believers is eternity in Heaven - not based on their faithfulness, but based on the faithfulness of Jesus Christ. Read this book. Buy copies for others and pass them on.
