While that's true, identity thieves can intercept your mail and cause a lot of havoc, which makes this Secure Mail Vault a must-have. Your postal carrier can deliver letters, magazine and small packages safely into the mail slot but bad guys will find trying to defeat the deadbolt lock vault more trouble than it's worth. Program your own security code on the numeric keypad for keyless access or use the mechanical key for dual entry. The vault features rugged steel construction that can hold up to weather, vandalism, tampering and even an occasional blow from a baseball bat. Complete solution includes the mail vault, 2-pc. 46L post, mounting flange and all necessary hardware. Total dimensions are 12.3in.L x 18in.W x 21in.H; in Black.

We have had a secure logic mail vault for 6 years now and just purchased another from Amazon. Mail is delivered, even mail order prescriptions and packages, directly into this VERY secure box. We had a mail theft 9 years ago that really created a mess.
6 months ago some one tried very hard to get onto our mail vault. They never got to the mail, they only were able to trip the internal bolts permanently locking ALL OUT. (much like your bank vault or Rhino safe would do)and they were never able to get in. They did damage the lock and we had to have a locksmith open the box for us to get our mail. I would not be without this secure mail box with all of the mail thefts out there! It really is peace of mind in mail delivery.

Update: We also live in the Pacific Northwest... WD40 the hinges for protection. Site your box properly. My comment on LOCKSMITH was because of an attempt to BREAK INTO THE BOX BY A THIEF. They did not succeed. I purchased a 2nd box because I saw the protection it gives our mail, slight inconvenience is OK as after a mail /ID theft you are GREATLY inconvenienced for years. The KEY is a backup if the pad fails, Keep it safe! (The 20322 is a newer model I had to wait 5 months for this mail box as they are being made now)

Mailbox is very well built, works flawlessly and is nice looking. The keypad works well and the two keys provided will let you access the mailbox if you do not wwant to use the keypad or the batteries happen to go dead. I put in the best Duracell batteries, have had the mailbox for 3 weeks and have had no problems. We gave the mailman his own code so he can put the mail in the main part if he has a larger box. This should be secure since he is the guy delivering the mail in the 1st place. I would reccommend this box especially for the money.

It chews through batteries like candy. We've tried rechargeables, but changing the batteries every 3-4 days gets old fast. When you punch in your code the door unlocks, you open it, and before you can get all your mail out it relocks, with the door open. So you enter the code again just to shut the door. We've been reduced to using the one key provided to open the mailbox. If we just wanted a locking mailbox we could have gotten one far less expensive than this.

I read the other reviews and foresaw a problem with the final unit wobbling a bit, and yup they were right. I paid a professional another $300 to install this right, with a custom concrete pad for the mailbox and for the USPS truck to come close, and the guy was very careful at every step, but...it wobbles. First, the mailbox wobbles a bit on the post, and then the post itself wobbles at the junction. Why is there a two-piece post with a joint that might wobble? I think it is because the package is smaller that way, not because the product is better in any way. Upon close inspection, it appears that both wobbles are caused by the pre-drilled holes being too large for the screws to be able to gain traction--all they do is pull the pieces of metal closer together. Having the holes larger makes it easier to get the pieces of metal to line up, but then they will always wobble. A design flaw.

Another little problem we have is with the plastic cover that hides the key hole for when you forget the combination or the batteries are dead. A great idea, since it's not at all obvious that there even is a way to get in other than the combination lock. BUT, it's impossible for us to pop the cover off without use of a screwdriver or a knife. Someday, I know somebody will break it.

Other than that, the unit is terrific. It holds a huge amount of mail, very securely of course, the keypad is very easy to use, and the batteries have held up with no problem at all for over a month. Our problems of mail theft are over, I'd say; we're just careful not to push too hard on anything, so we never feel the wobbles!

Update 4/27/2013: The batteries are now dead after 6 weeks. They were brand new Duracell alkaline batteries too.

I love the security of this mailbox, good battery life. I've had this mailbox for 5 years and its rusted through both at the hinge of the door and through the bottom!

The mail box itself is constructed like Fort Knox (except the plastic keypad face plate). Remarkably the big "fatty" post on which it stands has a severe design fault at the union of two pieces of the post. The new model comes with a two piece post with three slotted (not round) screw holes at the union of the two pieces. These ovoid holes accept three short stubby one way threading screws that are cheap soft sheet metal-like screws. These screws are a jaw dropping engineering misapplication for the post's structural requirements. The post union is just above ground level so the entire weight of the box is on the sloppy union. When correctly installed with minimal torque the soft metal of the cheap screws does not fully engage the ovoid holes and the entire post wobbles and twists like a drunken sailor with an over sized head.

Another reviewer has noted the same problem. I will fix it by by drilling and placing a traversing bolt and washer assembly to lock the union together but unless you have a beefy high speed drill and are thrilled about hanging at the hardware store to buy extra parts for your $220 mail box, do not buy this product until/ unless the post is redesigned.
