5.0 out of 5 stars Best CISSP book out there, December 5, 2001
This review is from: Secured Computing: A CISSP Study Guide (Paperback)
I used all the CISSP books available--SRV and Prep Guide. SRV is a waste of time. This book is the best! It is not as formal as the others and more to the point!. I used this and was very satisfied! If you are looking for something without the fluff, then this is the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars The true scoop!, March 9, 2002
This review is from: Secured Computing: A CISSP Study Guide (Paperback)
Overall this book is great. I have to disagree with those that state that it was not good. As a security proffesional of 20 years, I thought the information was concise, accurate and right on target for the CISSP exam. Compared to other books that spend 5 pages on the history of cryptography, which will never be tested, this book is more straight forward.

I emailed the author and a second edition is on the way, double the size and corrected the grammer issues. Now if you are looking for a literary master piece, then this is not your book. It is a very casual book and is more like reading someones notes for the test, but it gets the job done. I would highly recommend this book if you want to pass, as long as you are not offended by it's lack of grammer and editing skills.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievably Bad Book, May 31, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Secured Computing: A CISSP Study Guide (Paperback)
This book is one of the best examples of very bad writing and editing mixed with flat-out inconsistencies and falsehoods.

When I showed this book to my ISC2 CISSP Prep Class, several people had the same opinion (including the ISC2 instructor).

This book will confuse and frustrate any CISSP candidate who does not have an MCSE, CCNA or other techie certification. The CISSP certification is slowly migrating away from "pure" technical knowledge to more "professional" knowledge. This said, the now-infamous "Blue Book" has been shelved and remembered as an example of everything that is wrong with the information protection professional certification.
