Best CISSP book out there,
By "buyfugazi" (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Secured Computing: A CISSP Study Guide (Paperback)
I used all the CISSP books available--SRV and Prep Guide. SRV is a waste of time. This book is the best! It is not as formal as the others and more to the point!. I used this and was very satisfied! If you are looking for something without the fluff, then this is the book!

The true scoop!,
This review is from: Secured Computing: A CISSP Study Guide (Paperback)
Overall this book is great. I have to disagree with those that state that it was not good. As a security proffesional of 20 years, I thought the information was concise, accurate and right on target for the CISSP exam. Compared to other books that spend 5 pages on the history of cryptography, which will never be tested, this book is more straight forward. I emailed the author and a second edition is on the way, double the size and corrected the grammer issues. Now if you are looking for a literary master piece, then this is not your book. It is a very casual book and is more like reading someones notes for the test, but it gets the job done. I would highly recommend this book if you want to pass, as long as you are not offended by it's lack of grammer and editing skills.

Unbelievably Bad Book,
By A Customer
This review is from: Secured Computing: A CISSP Study Guide (Paperback)
This book is one of the best examples of very bad writing and editing mixed with flat-out inconsistencies and falsehoods. When I showed this book to my ISC2 CISSP Prep Class, several people had the same opinion (including the ISC2 instructor). This book will confuse and frustrate any CISSP candidate who does not have an MCSE, CCNA or other techie certification. The CISSP certification is slowly migrating away from "pure" technical knowledge to more "professional" knowledge. This said, the now-infamous "Blue Book" has been shelved and remembered as an example of everything that is wrong with the information protection professional certification.

To the point!,
This review is from: Secured Computing: A CISSP Study Guide (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. It was to the point. It had many spelling errors that need to be edited out. The content was right on. It was very helpful in passing the exam. I emailed the author and a second edition is on the way soon with edits and updates. A must have if you want to pass!

Perhaps a little quality assurance,
By A Customer
This review is from: Secured Computing: A CISSP Study Guide (Paperback)
The information presented in the book is useful, however there are a number of the test questions that are typed incorectly and formatted incorrectly and in one case the letter of the answer differs from the explanation of the answer. Its almost as if there was a rush to get this in print. There are a few inconsistencies between this book and the other major study guides and this can cause confusion. My main complaint is the number of errors within the book. The content itself is helpful, not the be all and end all but useful for review nonetheless.

An utter waste of time and money,
By JC (Boston, Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Secured Computing: A CISSP Study Guide (Paperback)
This book was a complete and utter waste of time and money. Although I am sure Mr. Endorf is good at his job, he is apparently not a writer (technical or otherwise). The organization of the book is terrible; the data is often downright incorrect. At very least, the definitions and conclusions show a lack of understanding and knowledge about the underlying concepts (for example, the sections and questions on object oriented programming). The sample exam questions are terrible and often incorrect. Use the "CISSP Prep Guide" -- although it too has some issues, they are very minor in comparison to this book, that should hardly have been considered a rough draught.I wasn't looking for a work of literature, but in a field like security you expect clarity, attention to detail and correctness of facts to be evident. Not so in this case.

Good overview; too many typos,

I like that this book presents the information in laymen's terms. However, the many typos, missing words and spelling errors are a distraction.

Poorly written and poorly organized.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Secured Computing: A CISSP Study Guide (Paperback)
I bought this book based on the reviews and the lack of other options. I had already read the CISSP prep guide (I highly recommend) and the CISSP all in one (Good but wordy) so I had a good base to work from when I started reading this one. The grammar is unbelievably bad, I find myself thinking, was this guy drunk when he wrote it. Not only is the grammar bad but the organization makes no sense when he present subjects, for instance when going over different data classifications, he could at least put them in some order, say from least sensitive to most sensitive, not rocket science but it just makes sense. Also there are so many errors I'm afraid every time he brings up something that I cannot cross reference in one of the other books is even correct or not.

CISSP is an objective exam and book has objective chapters for all domains. No useful reading in it.

I ordered this book and used one other. This was the best choice. I would definitely recommend it. When I took the test it helped more than anything, because there was not a lot of fluff. It did not take me 5 weeks to get the book either. A must read if you want to pass the exam.
