The basics are well covered!,
By Fraternal Order of Security Professionals (Davenport, Iowa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Security Officer's Manual (Paperback)
I would immediately recommend this book to anyone interested in or has to train new security persons. Although it may not cover hostage situations, terrorist attacks, etc., it does well, what any book can do: Cover the basics! No security company that survives can rely on text or videos to fully train their personnel. But Mr. Clede's book does cover those basics with detail. One of my favorite features of the book is the legal research and inclusion of court rulings. These are very important for the officer to understand what rights are granted, why and by whom. I myself use this book to augment training within my security curriculum. Although Mr.Clede may be a freelance writer, he has many competent contributors listed within the cover. To Mr. Clede, you have done well where others of lagged.

If you want learn how to deal with a hostage situation, this is the wrong book. If you are new to the industry or a manager in charge of training new officers this book will do a good job of covering the basics. I recomend this book to all new officers I encounter. There are other books that deal with different subjects of security indepth, but this is the one that opens the door of knowledge and paves the way for further studying.

Clede's manual incomplete,

This review is from: Security Officer's Manual (Paperback)
You are the first to realize there is an armed hostage-taker in one of the offices you patrol. You have no partner and know for sure the police are at least 15 minutes away. The hostage-taker sees you and shouts: "Get my no-good, cheating wife here in 5 minutes or I'll shoot one of the hostages." No one outside the office is in danger. In proper sequence, what are the first 4 things you should do? While on foot patrol in a shopping mall you see a teen-age boy point a pistol at a group of people who are looking away from him. The boy with the gun doesn't see you. What do you do? You are armed with a handgun, on duty. A young man asks you what you would do if you saw a woman threatening a man with a weapon. What would you tell him? How would you disarm a combative person who is wielding a knife? Mr Clede, none of these questions are addressed in your book. In the amazon.com interview you said you are a free-lance writer. Perhaps you should choose another topic before you get someone hurt.
