Calling All Sistas!!!!!, October 9, 2006
This review is from: Sedu Ionic Ceramic Tourmaline Flat Iron Hair Straightener 1.5 Inch (Health and Beauty)
First, I want to say to those who read this ..
I AM 100%, PURE, UNTOUCH, GRADE A, PUREBREED, CERTIFIED, PANTENT-PENDED PROUD BLACK!!! ( I know this because I have a stamp on my butt .. HA!!)
I am going to be honest .. I have the nappiest hair on the planet, and can't nobody tell me otherwise.
I went natural about a year ago. I tried everything to starighten my hair, even the old fashion "hot comb on the stove" routine. It got straight, but I got burned really bad, not to mention burning out my hair.
I bought this flat iron, but didn't use it. I put it in the drawer and forgot about it. My bestfriend came over with her daughter and tell me that she was going to get her hair flat iron at some girls house for $25. That's when I remember I had it. I told her to try this first.
As she was doing her hair, I just stood there with my mouth wide open! It looked like silk (no joke). Renee (bestfriend) started aguing with me. telling me that I never used it, so she should be able to take it. NOT!!!
I used it on my all natural hair, and was so happy!!
I went over to my mothers house and she was mad. She said I went a whole year trying to grow my relaxer out, just to get a new relaxer. When I told her about my Sedu, She couldn't believe it.
Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!

Great iron, but don't expect it to last 1 year or more!, January 19, 2008
This review is from: Sedu Ionic Ceramic Tourmaline Flat Iron Hair Straightener 1.5 Inch (Health and Beauty)
My wife's Chi quit after a year, so we tried the Sedu... which works great for her long wavy hair, and she insists the heat output is far superior to any dept. store brands, and the difference is obvious.
So after 9 months of every other day use of the Sedu, she tells me the green light is intermittent, and has to move it just right to get it to stay on. I decided enough is enough and took it apart which was no easy task, they are pretty well sealed up, but for the price and such short time of use I wasn't going to throw it in the trash without trying. Anyway, when I saw the cord assembly inside it showed me exactly why the iron wasn't working. In order to allow the cord to swivel, there is a conductive rod type connector that fits into a stationary thin circular strip of metal. This conductive rod actually turns with the cord as it swivels, and over (short) time this rod will arc against the metal strip and slowly destroy it! This is why you have to have the cord in a certain position, because that thin metal strip is being eaten away and it will only make contact when the rod is moved against it just right. Therefore, this design will never last once the thin metal strip starts to be zapped away. What I decided to do was remove the rod and plate assembly, and I soldered the incoming power wires directly to the circuit board, carefully marking the + and - side as they were not labeled. I then used epoxy to carefully secure the wires into the assembly and the rest of the unit back together. Now with the cord secured and power always reaching the circuits, she's been using the iron again with no issues. In summary, if you buy this iron, SECURE the cord at the base somehow to prevent the inevitable loss of connection. The swivel feature is great, but unless they fix the design it's not worth it, and you'd rather have an iron that works well but doesn't swivel than an iron that swivels but doesn't work.
Why are these "professional" hair irons only good for ~1 year? It is unfortunate one shoddy design in the unit ruins the whole thing.

Sedu has Topped the Charts, December 3, 2004
I have been doing hair since 1980's and i've had numerous hair straightening irons through the years and i have to say i have been able to straighten more hair textures without the frizzy afterlook and not waste a lot of time falling behind.... one swipe down the hair shaft and it's perfect.... all i can say is to all the other hair straighteners out there "eat your heart out" SEDU has topped the charts.... to this day every person looking for a hair iron i recommend Sedu.
