An intoxicating read!,
This review is from: Seduce Me (The Legend Hunters) (Mass Market Paperback)
Esme Worthington believes it to be her fault that she is on the shelf. After all, her mother had warned Esme that men did not want a woman who spoke her opinions or had any book learning. Esme is very knowledgeable about the legendary Pandora's Box. This is why Esme finds herself kidnapped by the Raven's men. The Raven is a ruthless treasure seeker. He hunts and steals antiquities for profit. Before Esme knows it she is unwillingly wearing a bracelet from the box. Each bracelet represents one of the curses. Esme's is cursed with Lust. She has about two weeks to figure out how to remove the bracelet before the curse kills her.
Fielding Grey used to work for the Raven. Now he is freelance. Fielding hunts treasure on his own, hiring himself out to clients who are collectors. When the members of Solomon's hire him to locate and retrieve Pandora's Box, Fielding realizes that this is his chance to infiltrate the club. Somewhere within Solomon's is the answer as to who is responsible for his father's death. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on one's point-of-view, Fielding finds himself rescuing a damsel in distress. The longer Fielding spends in Esme's company, the more attracted to her he becomes. But is it real or a result of the curse dangling from her wrist? And how can he keep Esme safe from the Raven, help her figure out how to remove the bracelet, keep the box out of the wrong hands, as well as search for information about his father's death? ***** This is one of the best historical romances I have read this year. I have always been interested in the legend about Pandora's Box. Perhaps that is why I found myself unable to stop reading. I read the entire book in one night. (Who needs sleep?) The engaging plot and charming characters blend together for one intoxicating read. ***** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.

Twists, turns & passion keep the pages turning!,

Fielding Grey is an independent fortune hunter who makes his living from being employed by others who want to find treasure but do not want to get their hands dirty. One fateful day, he is approached by a member of Soloman's (whom he happens to hold responsible for his father's death) and they hire him to find the infamous Pandora's Box. He accepts this mission because A) he'll make some nice money and B) it might give him the opening he needs to investigate his father's death. What he doesn't expect is having to rescue the "damsel in distress" in the process. What he expects even less is to fall for her!
I have become a complete sucker for "bodice rippers" and this was no exception! I breezed through this book. It was different from my usuals because it touched on a subject many others hadn't - magic! What if Pandora's Box was real and it fell into the wrong hands? What if we all fell prey to its powers? Esme was boldly flirtatious and Fielding was coy & aloof - the perfect role reversal for a Victorian couple! The LUST bangle she wore wasn't just a prop, but an excuse to exercise that muscle of hers that had gone unused (take that as you will). In addition, Esme was educated and studious and had an immense love & appreciation for books which I can totally relate too. I enjoy these books so much because I love to see the evolution & growth of these couples. What started off as a physical attraction based on the power of a little gold bracelet, grew into a love that neither could deny. C'mon guys, how could you resist this stuff?! This book is not without twists, turns and action though. There are quite a few secrets from Feilding's family past that are revealed which throw him and us (the readers) for a loop. In addition, since the Raven is also after Pandora's Box, he will stop at nothing to get it - even if he means eliminating those who get in his way.

Could Romance be a Curse?,
By Theresa M. Studer "Terra57" (Hopedale, MA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Seduce Me (The Legend Hunters) (Mass Market Paperback)
Seduce Me by Robyn DeHart is a fun, fluffy, light read that leaves you feeling refreshed. A story that is part Indiana Jones, part romance, part who-dun-it all set in Victorian England. A story to delight page after page right up to the end.
Our hero, Fielding Grey is a treasure seeker extraordinaire. He lives for danger and the prize at the end of the adventure. What he doesn't live for is complications in the form of women. Ha....wuss! Guess he's in for a bit of a surprise when this adventure is not only about the much sot after Pandora's box but includes curses, magic, ruffians of the worst sort and Women. Well, one woman in particular. Now if he only figure out which part of his anatomy he should be thinking with he might actually get some work done. Esme Worthington our heroine is well schooled in historical artifacts and for a women in Victorian England this can leave a bad taste in the mouths of most men. She has acknowledged the fact that she will always be a spinster due to the habit of not knowing when to keep her thoughts and her tongue to herself. However, being schooled in this case ends up with her in chains in only her night rail leaving her at the mercy of those around her. Will her captures ravish her before help can arrive or will she succumb to the unpleasantness of lowly thieves with horrid breath and blackened teeth. YUK! Our author has given us an exciting tale that is perfectly paced. A teasing tale with the right amount of action and adventure. My only problem was I think our hero needed to be a bit less whiney but this is my opinion for what it's worth. A truely good tale and one that shouldn't be missed. I can overlook a bit of a whiney male for a good story anyday especially since most men are whiney anyway. LOL!

This book was a perfect blend of a historical romance and an adventure. DeHart's writing has always reminded me of Amanda Quick's historicals with their smart quirky heroines and dashing heroes. Fielding Gray (what a great name by the way) was a terrific hero and Esme reminded me of one of my all-time favorite heroines, Emily from Amanda Quick's Scandal. The adventure part of the story never overran the romance. I am definitely looking forward to the rest of this series.

I am a huge DeHart fan! So far she definatly has not let me down.[ I am still waiting for the last of the slueth society, but if she keeps this up I can wait!] I fell in love with the characters,it moved nicely, and oh yes,the treasure seeking element was great! I could see myself as being as much in love with books and history and all the artifacts. If you would like a GREAT read pick this one up { I read mine in less than than 2 hrs}.I cant wait till the next one in this series comes out. If you haven't read any of her first books I would also reccomend them. She is definatly one of my new favorite authors.

I've been a fan of Robyn DeHart since her very first book. I worried that it might be a one-hit wonder, but she continues to turn out great new stuff. This was very different from her past sort of Victorian politics of manners. It's a true adventure of the Indiana Jones variety, but with plenty of happily-ever-after thrown in as well. You can't go wrong spending your hard earned cash on this one.

Historical Romance With a Kiss of Magic,
By
This review is from: Seduce Me (The Legend Hunters) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a big fan of Historical Romance and so was excited when I got the opportunity to read SEDUCE ME by Robyn DeHart. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that the story had a touch of magic to it as well, creating a very realistic and unique read. In SEDUCE ME, DeHart has created a wonderful story with an intriguing plot that is bound to keep the reader captivated. This is book one in DeHart's new Legend Hunters series and it looks like DeHart has created a winning new set of stories.
Fielding Grey is the Viscount of Eldon and a treasure hunter by trade. Having been raised by his scholarly father who practically abandoned his family and squandered the family fortune in search of treasures, Fielding holds no soft place in his heart for "scholars." After many years, Fielding finally managed to replenish the family's money supply by discovering ancient artifacts and selling them to prospective clients. It might not be the most honorable thing to do, but it brings in the cash and gives the coarse Fielding a sense of freedom. Esme Worthington is a scandalized woman, living with her aunt in their shared home. Looked down upon for speaking her mind, Esme has learned to brush off the ideas of society and actively pursues her research. Her obsession, the thing that keeps her up until all hours of the night, is Pandora's Box. Since she was a child, diving through books and having adventures with her father, Esme has always felt a peculiar lure to the idea of Pandora's Box. When she is faced with the actual box, however, a series of events unfold that lead to a struggle for her life. SEDUCE ME was quite different for me in that it did combine the elements of Historical Romance with that kiss of fantasy. I was unsure if the two were going to conflict with each other, but was happy to discover that DeHart managed to develop the story in such a way that they really did complement one another. As I mentioned earlier, the amount of magic that goes into the story isn't enough to overwhelm the plot; instead it enhances the plot and allowed DeHart to take the story to new heights. I really did love the characters of both Fielding and Esme. Even though Fielding was a tough treasure hunter with an at times sour demeanor, DeHart also gave him moments where he could be sweet and gentle. The contrast between these two sides of him was immense and actually made him quite relatable. His character seemed very authentic and added to the pleasure of the story. Esme was also quite an authentic character. It may have been difficult for DeHart to develop an independent and free-spirited woman for the late 1800's, but if it was I would never know. Esme flowed easily across the pages and had a modern feel to her while still staying in character with the timeframe of the story. Another fantastic aspect of the book was the Indiana Jones or National Treasure feel that it had. DeHart took a book that could have been good with just the romance and added in the perfect touch of adventure and suspense. I flipped the pages both to see where the relationship between Fielding and Esme would lead, but also to discover what would happen next. That doesn't always happen in a Romance novel and, in the case of SEDUCE ME, added a nice level of depth and complexity. Fair warning time: With a title like SEDUCE ME, I would hope that this warning didn't need to be stated but due to the fact that I have readers of all ages here, I feel much more comfortable giving it. There are adult themes and scenes within the pages of SEDUCE ME. The scenes are graphic but contain many more "flowery" words than some other adult novels. For this reason I would give SEDUCE ME a sensuality rating of 4. Overall I really liked SEDUCE ME. I found the plot to be quite intriguing and well planned out. The characters were developed nicely and complimented each other as well as the story. I think that the only thing that could have made the book better for me would have been to adjust the pacing. It seemed at times that the story was rushing at breakneck speeds. There were moments when it felt that there should be some action to go along with the dialogue or instances where I felt that something more should have happened but didn't. The dialogue was great, but it felt like the actual interactions between the characters at times seemed to be missing. It created a slight disconnect but was not something that in any way ruined the story for me. If you are a fan of Historical Romance and/or like your Romance with a hint of magic, I suggest you try out SEDUCE ME. It is unique, full of adrenaline pumping action and will more likely than not keep you flipping pages until well into the night

This review is from: Seduce Me (The Legend Hunters) (Mass Market Paperback)
Synopsis of Seduce Me:
Seduce Me introduces Fielding Grey, Viscount of Eldon, who lives the dangerous life of a treasurer seeker in the 1880s. Unlike his father who approached archeology as a scholar, Fielding Grey has had to accept clients and pursue artifacts based on their monetary value. His latest assignment from The Men of Solomon involves the fabled Pandora's Box. It's this search that leads him to Esme Worthington, a scholar and specialist on Pandora's Box. Esme Worthington has always loved archeology and has built a reputation as a scholar. Esme's expertise draws danger to her and disrupts her quiet life. She's fortunate to come across Fielding Grey, an unexpected hero. As Esme and Fielding learn to work together to solve the mysteries of Pandora's Box, Esme's curiosity causes her to release one of the Box's curses. Review: Seduce Me has a fun blend of romance and adventure. Esme's the sort of intelligent, outspoken, beautiful, good hearted and slightly clumsy heroine that I always find myself rooting for. Fielding is mysterious and likable. As Fielding searches for the story behind his father's death while fighting his growing attraction to Esme, the book draws you in. From the light banter between Fielding and Esme to the excitement during the hunt for the solution to the curse. this book makes a wonderful escapist read. This is my first Robyn DeHart novel and I look forward to reading many more.

This review is from: Seduce Me (The Legend Hunters) (Mass Market Paperback)
Fielding Gray has been hired by Solomon's (otherwise known as the Legend Hunters) to help return a missing artifact. This artifact is described as quite dangerous and the sooner it is returned the better... it is the legendary Pandora's Box . Fielding knows of the tales surrounding the box but he is more concerned with how much money they plan on paying him to go on this mission. He isn't very fond of Solomon's or its members - his father was once a member and Fielding always felt that they lured his father away from him with the promises of wealth and notoriety. So needless to say, he is not too happy when contacted by them but upon an agreeable sum, he is off to find Pandora's Box.
Esme Worthington finds herself in a tough predicament when she finds two men ransacking her study/library and seeking a "key". She has no idea what key they are referring to and since they obviously don't have time for her nonsense, they bound, gag and carry off with her. She is taken to a cathedral where they eventually find Pandora's Box. Much to her delight really, since she is a scholar and the focus of her studies has been on none other than ..... you got it, Pandora's Box. Fielding finds Esme shackled to a wall, wearing only her nightdress, cold, tired and well, passed out (thanks to a blunt hit to the head). He is able to save her and retrieve the box... but this is where their problems start. For Esme cannot resist the lure of "peeking" into the box and next thing you know she is shackled with a bracelet inscribed with the curse -- LUST. Upon some quick investigating on their part they find that she has until the next lunar eclipse to remove the bracelet... if not she wil DIE. From one adventure to another, they must find a way to remove the bracelet, discover the truth of Fielding's father's death, return the box to its rightful place... all while Esme's feelings for Fielding get rather "lustful". Will they be able to save the day or will they succumb to the curse that is Pandora's Box.. Firstly, I want to say that I loved this! Fielding and Esme were these wonderful characters that complimented one another perfectly. Their interaction was just plain fun to read. I thought the story was well-balanced with both romance and adventure. The story flowed just right where the pages would fly by. It gave you a feel of The Mummy (you know, the one with Brendan Fraser) so it was a different type of adventure me - but one that I quickly fell in love with. This is Ms. DeHart's first in the Legend Hunters series - I can't wait for the next one. Full of romance, mystery, likeable characters and plenty of adventure. This is one I highly recommend.

Bridget's Review,
This review is from: Seduce Me (The Legend Hunters) (Mass Market Paperback)
Seduce Me is about a man named Fielding Grey who has been sent to uncover an artifact. While searching for this item, Grey runs into a member of Solomons, an elite secret society who are searching for world treasures. Grey's dad was part of Solomons and Grey felt as if his dad was stolen by this group with the lure of untold wealth. The treasure they are in search of at this moment is Pandora's box. Esme walks into a room in her house and to her surprise, finds that her room has been ransacked and the culprits are still present. She tries to stand her ground and tell them that she doesn't have anything worth stealing. She tells them she doesn't know anything about the key they are in search of. Esme is captured and held by these men. Esme finds Pandora's box. Will she hand it over to this group that kidnapped her to save her life, or will she and Fielding fall victim to this powerful box? Loved it! Books like this are why I have such a passion for reading. When I was little and thinking about what I wanted to do with my life, I would change my mind everyday. I wanted and still want to do so many things that I will probably never be able to do. Not because I don't believe in myself but because some of things that I want to do would probably kill me. I would love to dig up dinosaur bones, I would love to be a treasure hunter, I want to discover a cave, just to name a few. I may never do some of things that I want to do physically but when I read I am able to be whatever I want to be. It's the greatest release. I would probably be insane if it wasn't for great storytellers to help me escape from my troubles. |
