...I'd leave this book in Amazon's inventory.
Mallory is one year away from making partner at her law firm. She has created a persona to insure she is taken seriously as the only female lawyer in the law firm. To say she dresses down is an understatement. She wears frumpy, shapeless suits, black rimmed glasses that hide her eyes and her hair is pulled back in a tight bun. Jack is the law firms super successful divorce attorney, known as the terminator. The office secretaries and Mallory all drool over him, it's also well known that he is not a believer in happily ever after. Plus there is a strict no dating other employees rule in the firm. When a potential client summons Jack to his resort so they can discuss his case, the firm feels Mallory would be a good asset to take along. These two have rarely spoken and have never spent time together. After they reach the resort Jack mentions her cold demeanor, so what does Mallory do, she sends him an invitation that promises him seduction, to prove him wrong. As a Carly Phillips fan I have to admit to being more than disappointed in this story; there is simply nothing about it that I enjoyed. The dialogue is horrendous; it's one cheesy line after the next, it all felt juvenile and unrealistic. The best of the horrid lines was "he wanted to be the man to plumb her hidden depths." I laughed so hard I was crying! Their chemistry goes from being non existent to being exaggerated and unbelievable. What I think really went wrong with this story was making the characters fall in love. Carly tried to create a deep and emotional tale out of a shallow office romp. I can understand the whole vacation/office fling. It happens, it's believable. But after a few embraces these two start acting like they have uncovered each others life's secrets. Give me a break. They never shared more than a few personal facts about themselves, yet suddenly they are in love. The part that really irked me was Mallory has worked so hard to be seen a certain way and then after a stupid comment from a virtual stranger she is willing to throw away all she's worked for to prove a guy wrong. It just wasn't believable. I would have preferred it if she just would have seduced him because she was sexually attracted to him, not making it some childish answer to a challenge, like he double dog dared her. This is one Carly book I will not be keeping. And for you long time fans that will probably buy this book anyway; this is actually a re-release of a 2001 book titled Erotic Invitation (Midnight Fantasies) (Blaze, 17), so check your shelves before you buy.

I really liked this book. I'd probably give it a 4 1/2 stars if I could, but I'm feeling generous tonight so I averaged it up. I've read other books by Carly Phillips, and some I've enjoyed and some not. But, this one was fun - good dialogue, a great balance of sexiness and romance, and people I liked. There were no frustratingly painful misunderstandings that go on for a hundred pages that made this reader gnash her teeth. So many authors rely on that kind of thing for tension. The development of the relationship between Jack and Mallory was well developed (for a romance novel, anyway) and pretty realistic. I loved the whole idea of the invitations going back and forth between them, and the growing affection.
I'm happy to recommend this book to others. While I enjoyed Phillips' series on the Chandler brothers ("The Bachelor", "The Playboy", and "The Heartbreaker"), I've haven't thought much of some of her last few books, so "Seduce Me" was a pleasant surprise. Do be forewarned that this is a re-issue of the 2001 Harlequin book "Erotic Invitation".

Seduce Me
This book is unbelievably silly. How boring to read such phrases as "his large hand covered her small one." This author has a limited command of the English language, and no real substance in writing, making for ho-hum reading. Sadly, this book was on the New York Times bestseller list. Either the American public has stooped to new lows in their book selections, or the reviewer for the above publication has been seduced. I rate this one star, only because I want to make sure my opinion makes the pages! In reality, we should have been given stars for getting through the book. --disappointed reader

Couldn't keep my attention,
This review is from: Seduce Me (Mass Market Paperback)
I normally like Carly Phillips. I like a good mindless book. I just didn't care about the characters. I couldn't make myself finish this one. If you have nothing better to read, sure it's fine. Mallory just didn't keep my attention. Jack was ho hum. I'm not sure what it needed. Maybe it needed something for them to do. If there had been some kind of common goal they had to work for, but the reason they were at the resort was at the whim of a rich client who takes off for a few days and leaves them hanging? It's more believable to put an actress behind a plant to hide her real life pregnancy.
Try another CP book instead.

Rated D For Dismal & Disappointing,

I have been a fan of Carly Phillips for several years and have enjoyed nearly all of her books, but this one read like a bargain sale Harlequin. The main character of Mallory was completely contrived and absurd. How typical to paint her as a Dowdy Delores by day who seems to dress in the dark. And a Sultry Susie by night. A woman all too willing to risk her high profile career for a fling with one of the head honchos, KNOWING that it is strictly forbidden by the firm. Oooo-k then! Was her law degree mail order by chance? Because the character was a constant contrast in intelligence and professional integrity. And the "seduction" and soap opera dialogue had me alternating between LMAO and rolling my eyes in disbelief. I'm as romantic and creative as the next person, but a ring of grapes around her neck? *Someone help dislodge my finger from my throat!* I couldn't even carry on much further. I was so tempted to pitch it in the trash because I couldn't imagine inflicting this book on any other poor, unsuspecting CP fan, but in the end I grudgingly donated it to my local library. This, to me was an example of an author compromising the quality of their work to put out a quick read to stave off fan hunger, while they're working on a QUALITY story. Or perhaps to score some quick cash in book sales. However, it is NOT the type of book that leaves me wanting to shell out another $7.99 of my hard earned money on any of Phillips future work. I'll check it out from a library first. On second thought..maybe not.

This was so disappointing....,

I normally really like Carly Phillips' books but this one was not good. I thought it was rather contrived and at times was just dumb. This couple is together for less than a week and in that space of time they completely change every view they have of their lives, their careers and their views on relationships. I know that happens a lot in romance novels but this was changing the characters into completely different people... Anyway, I thought it was not a well thought out book and it felt like Carly Phillips had to meet a deadline as apposed to wanting to produce a quality book.

having read other novels by CP (which I loved!) I was kind of disappointed with this one... the story was lacking in some way... you can not really believe ALL happens in a matter of days.... Quick read, but I nowhere near a keeper...

I like this kind of book... If you're looking for lots of substance, this isn't the book for you. If you're looking for a fun read with a little kinky fluff, then you'll love it.
