Book Description

January 1, 2009 Zebra Historical Romance
Texan Will 'Waco' McCain and his gang are under orders to rob a bank in Prairie View, Kansas, and get the loot back to their home state, pronto. Trouble is, the town's crawling with Yankee soldiers so it's on to Plan B: kidnap the banker's stepdaughter. Nabbing the delectable Rosemary Burke turns out to be easy as pie. But Waco soon discovers the smart, stubborn heiress is quite the handful - in every sense...Rosemary knows this kidnapping is the perfect opportunity for her greedy stepfather to get rid of her and keep her inheritance, which is why he's ignoring her captors' ransom demands. Truth be told, living in close quarters with the handsome cowboy isn't the worst thing to happen to a girl who's had few chances to hone her feminine wiles. Come to think of it, seduction might be her best chance at escape - not to mention a bit of fun...With the ransom dropping, his deadline looming, and something entirely unexpected blooming with Rosemary, Waco wonders if this dangerous game she's playing is about to turn deliciously real...

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

*Starred Review* Plump, pampered, wealthy Rosemary Burke returns to Prairie View, Kansas, after a yearlong tour of Europe only to be kidnapped by four Texans desperate to raise money for the Confederate cause. Ironically, this abduction saves Rosemary from her evil stepfather. The leader of the kidnappers, Waco McClain, is a true Southern gentleman who would never deliberately harm a woman, but his men’s lives depend on the delivery of $50,000 to his commander. Waco especially doesn’t want to hurt his spoiled, domestically challenged, clumsy captive. She is the most beautiful specimen of a female he has ever seen, a sturdy woman with a spirit to match. So why is her stepfather ignoring Waco’s demands for a ransom? In this entertaining tale, O. Henry’s “Ransom of Red Chief” meets the Old West as a young woman with a poor self-image falls in love with a reluctant outlaw. The ever-talented Gentry once again creates a tantalizing blend of humor and poignancy. --Shelley Mosley

1.0 out of 5 stars This book was ridiculous, June 23, 2010
This review is from: To Seduce a Texan (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I can hardly believe that anyone could give this book any stars at all. This book was redundant and silly to the extreme. Do not waste a single dime on this book. The author repeated herself numerous times and at one point I thought the chapters may have been mixed up because after Rosemary had been kidnapped for days the kidnappers said "what will we do with her tonight. Maybe she can sleep in the loft." Which is what she had been doing for the past 3 days. Please just stay away from this book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed Again!!, March 3, 2009
This review is from: To Seduce a Texan (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have at least half of Ms. Gentry's books, and I have loved all of them except for her last two books. Story lines are good and I like the humor. But. . . the dialogue is choppie, repetitive and down right annoying. I only made it through half the book before I finally had to give it up as a lost cause. Sad thing is I've always considered Ms. Gentry a very good author!! However she is now writing like Bobby Smith, and I quit buying Ms. Smith's books for the same reason!!

3.0 out of 5 stars An intersting read..., November 9, 2009
This review is from: To Seduce a Texan (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Rosemary Burke, a lady born, is finally going home to Kansas. In mere weeks, she will be 21 and will be in control of her future. Rosemary isn't foolish enough to believe that a man will fall in love with a plain, over-weight girl, so she plans on taking care of herself by running her father's bank. There's just one problem with that - her step-father is currently managing the bank and will not turn it over to her without a fuss.

Waco, Will McCain, is a Confederate soldier who is in a heap of trouble. The only way to save his, and his friends', necks is to come up with a large sum of money. He sees the rich, spoiled Rosemary as his ticket out of the mess he's currently in. By kidnapping her, he hopes to gain a hefty ransom from the girl's step-father. Imagine his surprise when the man doesn't respond to the ransom note at all.

By taking a few facts from the history books, Ms. Gentry has created an original tale unlike any I have read before set in the Civil War time period. While the war is mentioned throughout the book, the emphasis is more on the relationship between Rosemary and Waco. With feisty, loveable characters and an intriguing storyline, To Seduce A Texan is sure to capture your interest. Whether you like the old west or not, you'll fall in love with Waco and his band of friends - men of integrity and honor, even when keeping their word may jeopardize their very lives.

My hat's off to Ms. Gentry for creating yet another fabulous story. As Waco would say, well done ma'am.
