More About the Author

NEW YORK TIMES/USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR

Tara Sue Me wrote her first novel at the age of twelve. It would be twenty years before she picked up her pen to write the second.

After completing several clean romances, she decided to try her hand at something spicier and started The Submissive. What began as a writing exercise quickly took on a life of its own and The Dominant and The Training soon followed. An avid reader of all types of fiction, she soon discovered she enjoyed writing a variety as well.

Tara lives in the Southeastern United States with her husband, two children, two dogs, and a cat.

Successful businesswoman Julie Masterson runs a popular flower shop with her friend Sasha. There, she encounters Daniel Covington, Vice President of Weston Bank, when he comes into the shop to purchase flowers for a family member's ballet recital. The attraction between Julie and Daniel is instantaneous and they quickly find themselves in bed together. But Daniel is a respected Dominant within the local BDSM community and while he enjoys the vanilla sex he shares with Julie, he craves a deeper relationship with her, something that will allow his Dominant side to come out. But before Daniel can broach the topic with her, Julie agrees to attend a BDSM informational session with Sasha, an openly submissive woman who has invited Julie to these meetings many times before. Once there, Julie immediately runs into a stunned Daniel, the Master running that night's session.

Despite her friendship with Sasha, Julie is innocent when it comes to the BDSM lifestyle, but is curious to learn more. She's bold and possesses the shrewd confidence required to run a thriving business. Daniel is intrigued by Julie's repressed submissive nature. He is confident without being an alpha-male jerk. He is supportive of Julie exploring her sexuality, but doesn't try to force her into a lifestyle she may not be ready for.

I think this provides a well-rounded, yet mild look into the BDSM lifestyle - the good and bad, the sensual and scary. Most of the story centers around Julie and Daniel's exploration of Julie's growing understanding of her submissive nature and the internal and external conflicts that arise as a result. As Daniel must slowly introduce Julie to the lifestyle and what it means to be a submissive, so too is the reader's introduction to the same.

Tara Sue Me brings readers the first book in her new Partners in Play series, Seduced by Fire. Readers will be both captivated and emotionally invested in this story about a young woman who dares to make her hidden desires known. The author does a phenomenal job of bringing the BDSM community to life in a way that educates readers without terrifying them. Tara Sue Me's writing drifts like a stream with ripples and waves, as the reader ebbs and flows along with it. Her prose is elegant and her descriptions are so tempting readers might just give in. A great new book from a well respected voice in the genre.

What I liked:

This was my first book by Tara Sue Me, though I had definitely heard of her. Her Submissives series is very well known and a lot of erotic readers loved it. So I was excited about seeing what she had to offer with Seduced by Fire. I have rarely underestimated and author quite so much ever before. I thought I knew what I was going to get with this book. A cookie cutter version of what most author's have decided the BDSM community is all about. With overly dramatic characters that really didn't show the expressive and often beautiful relationships found in this type of lifestyle. I just knew it was going to be one of many that brush the darker side of things under the rug, but I was wrong. Very wrong.

Tara Sue Me has written a book about, what I think is an extremely realistic version of a BDSM relationship. The ups and the downs, the ins and the outs. She doesn't sugar coat, she doesn't glorify, she doesn't even take liberties with the feelings of her characters. She lays it out there and lets the reader decide what to make of it. She isn't trying to convince the reader, or even change their minds, it just is the way it is, the good and the bad.

5 Stars / Top Pick

In the world of BDSM there are different rules that are followed then in the real world. Being SSC, safe sane and consensual, especially for beginners like Julie those rules are strictly enforced. Since Julie was fairly new to the scene and finally had the courage to look into it, she knew that she would never be the same again. The biggest problem for her was that she was still not comfortable that she was seeing. All that she needs is the right dominant to make her fly and to be free in her submission.

Being a dominant for many years, Daniel has learned to spot a submissive whether that person knows it or not. He also knows that the submissive needs to choose to explore that side of themselves or things can go wrong and people can be hurt. When Daniel first saw Julie he knew that she was a submissive. He decided that he wanted to get to know her in the “vanilla” world before he introduced her to his dominant side.

In this particular book, the BDSM lifestyle is not all sunshine and roses. We learn that things can go terribly wrong in a scene. Just because the submissive trusts the dominant he or she is with, does not mean things cannot go wrong and trust not broken. When Julie learned that she did not think that being a submissive is for her. It took her watching a scene of a sub and her trusted dominant for her to realize that for her to true be free to be herself she needed to embrace her submissive nature and go to the dominant that would embrace and cherish her. So she went to Daniel and explained her wants needs and feelings.

By the end of the book Daniel and Julie embraced who they were and who they were together. Julie became a collared submissive and in that she truly felt free.
