Book Description

A ROMANTIC NOVELLA set in the 1880s
Strong-willed Miss Mary Dunaway had a plan for her future and she would stop at nothing to reach her goal of working with the poor in London. She was even willing to ask a gentleman, a stranger, to help her.

Twelve years later, the same gentleman reappears in her life. Although he doesn't seem to recall her, she remembers every detail of the kisses they shared. The attractive Lord Fellington apparently sees her as the saintly, nun-like matron of the foundling asylum. Very well, she made her bed and now she lies in it, alone.

warning: this story contains graphic sex...but only a few pages of it.

THIS EDITION ALSO CONTAINS THE FIRST CHAPTER OF SOMEONE TO CHERISH, another Kate Rothwell title.

About the Author

Kate Rothwell, who also publishes as Summer Devon, writes a lot of fiction.

She's written novels or novellas for Kensington, Samhain, Ellora's Cave, Total-e-Bound Publishing, Carina, Loose Id, Liquid Silver, an All Romance Ebooks anthology, Booksforabuck and herself.

Though her favorite subgenre is late Victorian historicals, especially with a New York City setting, she also writes contemporaries, paranormals and fantasy. The one consistent factor: the stories are all character-driven romance.

She's won numerous awards such as the Passionate Plume (she finalled a few times and won 2011 with co-writer Bonnie Dee), finalled in the Eppies, won a RIO award, the Golden Rose, the ecataromance Reviewer's Choice award, and she was a Romantic Times Readers' Choice finalist.

Her books have been translated into Dutch, Portuguese, Italian and Spanish.

You can find her at twitter, Facebook, her own blog and if she's really avoiding work, she's exploring sites like tvtropes.org or Lee Jackson's historical blog.

5.0 out of 5 stars Charming short novella! January 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This short historical is like a delicious slice of cake -- just enough to satisfy your sweet tooth. What I loved most about it was the wonderful characters. Miss Dunaway appears flighty at first when she wants a man to "ruin" her with a kiss to avoid an unwanted marriage, but as the story progresses, she reveals unexpected depth. Fell, the hero, is thoughtful and a perfect foil to Mary. This book has really whetted my appetite for the author's other stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Shorter than Expected January 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Mary has never wanted to be a society miss. So at the age of 17 she leaves her privileged home, to help the poor, but not before she steals a kiss from a handsome young man. 12 years later, while running an asylum for foundlings (an orphanage), she meets the same handsome man again when he comes to the asylum as a volunteer. Cute, well written, but too short. I would love to know what happens later, how they merge their lives, etc. Also, on the kindle format, the story finishes at about 65%, and the rest is an excerpt from another story. Because of the % done, I thought there would be a least one more chapter, and was disappointed when there wasn't.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this story February 11, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
My only frustration? I was just settling in for a nice, long visit with two fabulous characters in a delicious situation when the story wrapped up. I hadn't noticed it was a novella! Darn that Kindle.

I will be seeking out more of Kate Rothwell's work!

3.0 out of 5 stars Short story
A very short story with very little depth of character for both characters. The intro of a second story very long then leaves you hanging.

This book goes from one chance meeting to fate taking over years later.
I felt that the deflowering scene was just too unreal for it to happen like that. Read more

Cute story in an early time period. Main character has a strong view point that's allowed to shine through out the story line.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short story
Was interesting but the end should of been a little longer telling of how they were married and it worked with her job.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not really memorable
This short story can be read on the buss on the way to or from work. It's a super quick read, that holds the interest, but it's not "Like WOW!" material.

I knew this was short, but I didn't realize how short. I wish it had gone on for much longer because I did like very much what I did read. Read more

Seducing Miss Subway was a nice, short story. Read it while walking the treadmill. One sexual encounter in this romance.

More About the Author

I write romances under the names Kate Rothwell and Summer Devon.

I'm also a voracious reader. I pick up anything but especially enjoy genre fiction: fantasy, mysteries and romances. If there's depth and gorgeous writing, yay! But there better be a yummy plot as well.
