5.0 out of 5 stars An original tale with terrific characters, May 2, 2010
This review is from: Seducing the Knight (Brotherhood of the Scottish Templars) (Mass Market Paperback)
Author Gerri Russell has penned a truly unique tale, it's a little bit Indiana Jones and the epic movie The Kingdom rolled into one sweet story about honor, fate and love.

Templar Knight Alan Cathcart is on the battle field in Spain with his fellow brethren fighting a massive Moorish army when unbelievably he sees a woman running onto the battleground. He charges over and rescues her from the clashing swords and he's amazed to find a well dressed articulate Spaniard speaking to him in English.

Jessamine is no common Spaniard, she is in fact the niece of King Ferdinand and she charged into the midst of a horrible battle to escape an evil man the Conde of Teba who is trying to force her into marriage. Jessamine is grateful to be rescued and she is a huge believer in fate. At her birth a prophecy was foretold that she would be on a grand adventure and seeing Alan's templar uniform among the Moorish turbans, she knows the first lines of the prophecy have come to pass.

Alan is on a quest to discover the Ark of the Covenant for the Templar Order; the knights believe that they can keep the Ark safe from marauders in the middle eastern desert. Jessamine now believes this is her quest too and she accompanies Alan to Jerusalem to look for the holy artifact.

The two find much adventure along the way. There are assassins, mysterious strangers, Bedouins and always the Conde is stalking Jessamine hoping to marry into the royal family. Ms Russell does a good job of describing the harsh beauty of the desert, the wonder of Petra and the dangers that the leads face. There's a hint of the mystical woven throughout this story beginning with the miraculous rescue of Jessamine from the Moorish battle to the prophecy to the awesome forces displayed in the desert.

But even better, is the lovely story of Jessamine and Alan, yes they have one adventure after another but they are deep thoughtful characters, with rich interesting backgrounds. Jessamine is attracted to the wonderful traits of Alan, such as his kindness, intelligence and honor, her trust in him is absolutely unwavering. For his part, Alan adores Jessamine's adventurous spirit, her generous heart and her quick thinking. Together they are a truly romantic couple and they realize their deep affection despite the differences in their stations. I was thoroughly engaged in this yarn right from the beginning, the action and tension are constant throughout the story but best of all is the sweet tale of two people destined to find each other and for them to discover they are better together than apart.

4.0 out of 5 stars exhilarating fourteenth century Raiders of the Lost Ark, May 17, 2010
This review is from: Seducing the Knight (Brotherhood of the Scottish Templars) (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1331 Spanish Princess Jessamine flees before she is forced into a marriage with evil Conde of Teba. However, her escape places her in the middle of a battlefield as the Moors and the Templar Knights go at it with the former overwhelming the latter.

As he leaves defeated, Templar Sir Alan Cathcart knows his mission remains to find the lost Ark of the Covenant and bring it to his sire Robert the Bruce. However, after the initial shock of a female on the battlefield, he stops to rescue Jessamine. She is stunned because she believes the prophecy at her birth involves her on a quest odyssey has begun with the appearance of Alan. Together facing constant danger, the princess niece of King Ferdinand and the Templar Knight travel to the Holy Land in search of the sacred Ark even as they fall in love.

The second Brotherhood of the Scottish Templars historical romance (see To Tempt a Knight) is an exhilarating fourteenth century Raiders of the Lost Ark. Fast-paced and loaded with incredible layers of action starting with the battlefield first encounter, the pair falls in love while trekking the desert of the Holy Land. Both are believers but different as she accepts prophesies and destiny while he accepts the Lord Jesus. Although like the Indiana Jones' movie The Temple of Doom, the action often overwhelms the romance, fans will relish Geri Russell's exciting thriller.
