5.0 out of 5 stars She Did It Again :-)
Bernice McFadden is one of my favorite authors. I've read all but one of her books. Geneva Holliday is the lighter side of BM and I welcome her into my humble abode with open arms. Geneva hasn't let me down yet and as soon as I see new works by either or it's bought! Seduction was quite entertaining and I think it could easily be a made for tv movie. Hmmm who would I...

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't do it for me
I'm a fan of Geneva Holiday, but Seduction just didn't do it for me. The story and characters were well put together, but I was left unsatisfied after ending the last page.

4.0 out of 5 stars A tortured soul... a sexy read..., March 28, 2009
This review is from: Seduction (Paperback)
This has been a good year for me in the sense that I seem to find the perfect book to fit my ever changing mood. It has been a few years since I've read Ms. Holliday's work and I hate that I took such a long sabbatical. I had almost forgotten how sexually charged and drama filled her work is. From Jump Street I could tell that Mildred and Tony were going to get on my nerves, and they didn't disappoint. If the word "pathetic" is ever personified, it would manifest itself into the form of Mildred. Tony was just plain cocky and stupid, the type of person that was born for the sole purpose of being hated. I COULD NOT stand these two but, together, they helped create one heck of an engrossing read.

Geneva also knows how to write the sex scenes for real. They fit in nicely with all the serious drama in these pages. Mildred is a lost soul who is about as cute as a constipated bulldog. Extremely insecure, she surrounds herself with people who care nothing about her, including her best friend. Mildred is old school and not in a good way. She can't GET or KEEP a man and she lies to people about her life so she doesn't look so bad. Sounds like a pretty regular depressing life right? Not in the hands of Geneva! Poor Mildred is such a tortured stupid soul with a life that is a walking twenty car pile-up. You know you shouldn't look (or read in this case) but you can't help yourself because she is so incredibly miserable!

The only hiccup came around the middle of the book. Once Mildred takes a trip to a certain place the action seems to come to a halt. I worked my way through it because I WAS enjoying the book, but it did slow down the story enough to make a difference. Almost a little bit too much. After the "island speed-bump", things did pick up again but to be honest, a bit of the steam was already gone.

Near the end I was starting to root for Mildred but then she goes "Mildred" on me and I had to stop myself from throwing this book through the window. Tony is a true piece of work and he deserves everything that comes his way. I was hoping his retribution would have been a bit more exacting, but that's just me. I did enjoy this book and if it hadn't been for that little bump in the middle, this would have been a 5-star read. Despite that, I will not be waiting a few years again to read this talented author's work.

Hmmm who would I cast as what character??...You fill in the blanks. Seduction is a great, get your mind of the madness of the world kinda lighthearted read. Loved it and seems to me that the door was left open for this to have a sequel????

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW...boy am I late, August 7, 2008
This review is from: Seduction (Paperback)
I pride myself on being an avid reader. Unfortunately I've never read anything by Geneva Holliday...I am so sorry it took me so long to discover her work. I absolutely loved this book and I love her writing style even more. What a story teller . As a member of black expressions I received this book as part of my remaining comittment. When it came in the mail I started to send this & the other book I received back as I didn't order either of them.I was going to opt for authors I was more familiar with. I read the jacket & figured what the hell I'll try it. Boy am I glad I did. I now have to make it my business to purchase her previous books. One things for certain I will be anxiously awaiting her next release...

4.0 out of 5 stars Every Dog Has There Day, September 3, 2008
This review is from: Seduction (Paperback)
Tony Landry is a womanizer and a liar, and the truth is not in him. He lands a job at Green Investments as in investment banker, and a co worker Mildred Johnson falls head over heels for him. She is totally not his type of woman, until he decides to pull a scam in the company with her help. He will go as far as proposing marriage to Mildred and getting her to city hall. Then out of the blue he is gone like a thief in the night.

Overwhelmed with grief, Mildred takes a trip to Barbados an island of blue skies and beautiful scenery for some stress free relaxation. Having no knowledge of her transformation is about to take place. Once the beautiful swan Karma Jackson emerges, out of the nowhere she runs into Tony on the island and of course he doesn't recognize her. The plan for payback is in effect.

Seduction is a very good read. It teaches that everything that looks good to you is not always good for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Art of Payback, December 14, 2008

This review is from: Seduction (Paperback)
As usual the alter ego Geneva Holliday does not disappoint with this page turner. A homely woman turned beauty finds paying back the one who deceived her fun and intriguing. Mildred was not looking to be turned into the beauty that she was. Her passion was for true love no matter how she looked. She thought she found it but was tricked after doing things only love would make you do. It took her getting left at the altar to realize she had to do something with her life. With the help of cameo appearances from other Geneva Holliday books Mildred flew to the Caribbean and was given an unexpected extreme make over and ran into the very person who mislead her. Being unrecognized was the key to her delight and revenge. Now Mildred is off to a wonderfully changed life and fresh start.

This is my second Geneva Holliday book and it won't be my last.

I really enjoyed reading "Seduction". I was intrigued after reading the synopsis. There was no way I could walk away without it. I had to know how things panned out for Tony and Mildred.

Mildred is an ugly duckling lacking in self-esteem. She meets handsome, Tony and is immediately infatuated with him. When Tony finally "notices" Mildred, she's overjoyed. Little does Mildred know, Tony is plotting to earn some much-needed money. Tony then does the ultimate, he ditches Mildred, and heads to the Caribbean with the money that Mildred helped him obtain. He leaves her broken hearted and toothless.

Fast forward, Karma a/k/a Mildred is now slender, fashionable and stunning. Tony becomes immediately smitten. To Mildred's dismay, Tony fails to realize that Karma and Mildred are one in the same.

With the assistance of her friends, she plots to bring Tony to his knees even though she's still in love with him. Wait until you discover what happens next. You won't be disappointed.

I admire the way Ms. Holliday infused erotica and humor. "Seduction" is witty and entertaining. I completed it in a mere three hours.

Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars seduction at it's best, September 16, 2008
This review is from: Seduction (Paperback)
this is my first book by Ms. Holiday and i really enjoyed it. it was something different from the norm and i really got into the characters. Mildred's character was the one you wanted to save from herself. her boss, even though he thought she was the most unattractive woman he'd ever seen, he still respected her and in a way looked out for her without being too involved. but that dog tony, i swear i've never read a book with a character that had not one ounce of remorse when it came to how he took advantage of not only mildred but women period. he even treated his own mother with no respect at all. everything he did was all about him. but the way he regarded his friends makes him seem suspect to me.

besides mildred's co-worker and her boss, she had no one in her corner, not even her supposed best friend. i laughed and i wanted to cry while reading this book especially when she was stood up. i could see her in that dress and i could feel her pain. i wanted to jump in the book and help her myself that's how good a job ms. holiday did with expressing the pain mildred was going through. i was glad when she got her redemption in barbados. i only wished she would've done in a little more than she did, but what she did was justified and good enough.

i know a sequel has to be on the way due to tony's ways. good job ms holiday! i look forward to reading more of your works
