1.0 out of 5 stars silly dialog
I bought this book after reading the reviews but have to believe that I read a different book (although to be honest I can't say I finished it!) The sex scenes were graphic which I don't have a problem with. What I did have a problem with was the silly dialog coming from Lord Sinclair's mouth. Example: In their first love scene Damien says, "Trust me Vanessa,...

Nicole Jordan bounces back full-force with a compelling romantic novel,THE SEDUCTION - a tale of redemption, love and breathtaking sensuality. From her early novels such as THE WARRIOR and THE HEARTBREAKER, Ms. Jordan never fails to convince me that historical romance can be such engaging read with the right chemistry and poignancy. But in THE SEDUCTION, she tests her boundaries with rejuvenating and intelligent dialogues and some erotic imaginative scenes that spices up the story.

Lady Vanessa Wyndham is one amazing character - strong-minded and intelligent, who agrees to redeem his brother by offering her services as a guardian to Lord Damien's sister (Olivia), because her brother, Aubrey has inflicted paralysis on Olivia in a forbidden tryst. Vanessa manages to win the trust and friendship of Olivia and charms Damien with her unique blend of beauty and wit. Damien, being a notorious rake, sought only his pleasure in tempting Vanessa, but never did he realize he would lose his heart as well.

The secondary romance with Aubrey and Olivia is one that miraculously compliments that of Vanessa and Damien - both seeks redemption and understanding in love. There is sensuality in the love scenes especially where Damien and Vanessa agreed on a coaching of love-making. Damien is frightened of his obsession with her, and he understands he is not worthy of her with his past decadent ways.

It is not just steamy sex that gloss up the pages but the mutual understanding and heated chemistry between the two characters that is lacking in many historical romances. Ms. Jordan is a gifted writer who knits many universal values together -the friendship between Olivia and Vanessa, the acceptance and forgiveness shown in Damien's love for Vanessa and his sister. It surpasses the ordinary historical romances with a passionate style. Altogether, this book is a keeper and is one which restores faith and love in cynics like me.

THE SEDUCTION is dazzling, passionate and heart-rendering that will enthrall fans of this talented writer. With a period of absence from the writing scene, she proves she hasn't lost the magical touch.

Welcome back, Nicole Jordan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great writing and lush sensuality distinguish this Regency, May 11, 2000
This review is from: The Seduction (Mass Market Paperback)
Beautiful Lady Vanessa Wyndham has not had an easy life. Young Vanessa is forced into a loveless marriage that ends in scandal when her wastrel husband is killed dueling over the favors of a notorious actress. Vanessa is left penniless and returns home to her family. Vanessa's brother, the irresponsible Aubrey, Viscount Rutherford, has created a scandal of his own when he plays a cruel practical joke on Miss Olivia Sinclair that tragically ends with a crippling injury to the innocent girl. And now, Aubrey has lost the Rutherford family estates in a gambling match with Olivia's vengeful brother, noted rake Damien "Lord Sin" Sinclair.

Vanessa is desperate to save the family home for her mother and two younger sisters and appeals to Lord Sinclair to allow the Viscount to repay him rather than forfeit the family home. Coveniently, "Lord Sin" is looking for a mistress and suggests to Vanessa that she work off her brother's debt by becoming his mistress for the summer. Vanessa feels she has no choice but to agree to Damien's offer and travels with him to his country home, under the guise of companion to his crippled sister Olivia. Once at Rosewood, Damien begins a tender seduction of Vanessa that results in the lady's complete capitulation to him.

Well, this is a Regency romance, so Vanessa and Damien find unprecedented sensual bliss in their lovemaking sessions, soon followed by love. But like any good rake, Damien does NOT wish to marry, or even fall in love, and tries by various methods to distance himself from his bewitching mistress. Vanessa tries to break from Damien by suggesting that he teach her how to be a courtesan, so that she can support herself after he tires of their affair. OF course, the path of true love is never smooth, but this is a Regency romance, and true love DOES triumph, after all.

Ms. Jordan is a new discovery for me. I liked this book for the imaginative and sensual love scenes, for the well-written (if predictable) story, and for the wealth of rich supporting characters. I did feel that in some cases the hero and heroine acted out of character, merely to satisfy the story's requirements. However, that is a small flaw in a book that is one of the best written Regency novels that I have read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Steamy Romance!, August 17, 2000
This review is from: The Seduction (Mass Market Paperback)
Wow! Well what can I say... I believe I just finished reading the sexiest novel ever. THE SEDUCTION is filled with steamy sex scenes, from front to back. Now mind you, I didn't decide to read THE SEDUCTION because of steamy scenes, but because I wanted to read something by Nicole Jordan! And.. you know, this so happens to be her latest book.

Anyway, I'd like to say that I really enjoyed the story. Ms. Jordan has a way to include hot stuff in her story without distracting the reader from the plot. It's a novel where a reader can read, without thinking too much. Basically a book worth to spend time on. I loved her characters. Lady Vanessa had a very strong and caring personality. She took it upon herself to prevent her brother from losing all the family property to Lord Damien by posing as Damien's mistress. With her strengh, it really made her shine throughout the story. Lord Damien, a rake, was able to change for the better with the help of Vanessa. It was quite funny, now that I realize it, that Damien had a wonderful plan to seduce Vanessa, whereas in the end he was the one that ended up being seduced by Vanessa - unintentionally on her part, of course! It was also a pleasure to read about Olivia and Aubrey's relationship and how they got over their conflicts (Olivia is Damien's younger sister, and Aubrey is Vanessa's younger brother). I'm looking forward to THE PASSION - the sequel to THE SEDUCTION.

If you do end up enjoying this story like I did, another book on the similar theme of seduction is SEDUCED BY A SCOUNDREL by BARBARA DAWSON SMITH.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Seduction, May 7, 2000

This review is from: The Seduction (Mass Market Paperback)
This is one of the best books I've read all year. It is an erotic, sensual masterpiece, but what really makes the story great is the passion, emotions and feelings between the main characters. The H/H are so fasinating you can't wait to find out what's going to happen next. I also liked the secondary characters. Damien Sinclair is a rake with decadent and jaded tastes who has no use for love, but that all changes when he meets Vanessa. A must read. Not for the faint hearted, very sensual.

This review is from: The Seduction (Mass Market Paperback)
After reading The Seduction by Nicole Jordan, I only have to say I wish that I'd known of this author when I was single. This book could've gotten me through many a lonely night. The sex scenes are absolutely intense!

This book isn't all about sex, however. There is also a compelling story to be told. Damien Sinclair's sister Olivia is crippled in an accident due to the callousness of Aubrey Trent. Damien vows revenge against Aubrey, not caring who he steamrolls in the process. Aubrey's sister, Vanessa, goes to Damien to try to save the family home. Her real concern is for her younger sisters who've yet to make their come out. Vanessa offers her services as a companion to Olivia, who after her accident has shut out the world. Damien would rather have the widowed Vanessa as his mistress-but vows never to force her into his bed. As a matter of fact, she will have to come to him. They agree that she will act as Olivia's companion, for a start.

How the story progresses is wonderfully told and the real payoff is in the sex scenes. A definite keeper.

This review is from: The Seduction (Mass Market Paperback)
This is my first book of Nicole Jordan and gladly not the last. I've seen her books here in Amazon and decided to try her out. Luckily, I picked & read THE SEDUCTION first as it is the 1st book of the Notorious Series. I am now in the process of reading the 2nd book of the series, THE PASSION (Nicholas Sabine's story, an acquaintance of Damien Sinclair). The third book is originally named "Enchantment" but was later changed to "DESIRE" to make it sound sexier (I think its fitting too considering the first two titles of this series). DESIRE is the story of Lucian, cousin of Nicholas Sabine in the 2nd book. It is due out this coming November, 2001. I am hoping that the third book will have updates of the couples from the 1st two books.

SEDUCTION: Story of Baron Damien Sinclair and Lady Vanessa Wyndham.

When Damien's younger sister, Olivia, was injured and her reputation tattered due to a thoughtless young Viscount (who happens to be Vanessa's brother, Aubrey), Damien's swore revenge but since his sister made him promise not to put a bullet through Aubrey's heart, he deliberately challenged Aubrey to a high stake game cards he can't refuse. Aubrey, young and unexperienced to gambling, lost everything he inherited including his Rutherford estate where his ailing mother and 3 younger sister lived. Damien meant to ruin not only the young viscount but his family as well.

Upon hearing this, widowed Lady Vanessa Wyndham seeked out Damien pleading for compassion to at least partially forgive Aubrey's debt of honor but Damien had other terms in mind. She will become his mistress for the summer in exchange for the debts. Vanessa had no choice but to agree with his terms otherwise his ailing mother and two younger sister (including his reckless brother) would be destitute. Her only request is to make this arrangement as discreet as possible. She is a Lady, afterall and she have a reputation to maintain. Therefore, they have agreed that she will become Olivia's companion "for show" during the day but his mistress during the nights. Damien was attracted to Vanessa from the start but in all honesty, he didn't care about her reputation. Initially, she was all part of the revenge as well. Sorta like, an eye for an eye...

This is the first historical romance book I've read wherein the heroine wasn't a virgin and/or she was married once before... I was afraid I'd be turned off about that flaw but Nicole Jordan really made this story truly seductive. Not disgusting but utterly sweet and delightful. I like the way Vanessa carry herself. She's been through quite a bit of stir herself but her bitter 1st marriage and the scandals she was force to face not only made her stronger but smarter as well. Despite all her past trouble, she carried herself with pride and self esteem. She's sweet and endearing. Damien on the otherhand is a true handsome rake. I mean, really RAKE. I have read lotsa historical romance books where most heroes are described as such but none ever enumerates their rakish activities aside from having a lot of paramours and gambling. In this book, Nicole Jordan mentions activities such as debauchery. He is also a very smooth talker. I know one or two Amazon reviewers find it corny but his dialogue spoken in a soft deadly voice just awes me ( the way N.J describes it, i swear, i can hear Damien's voice :-) ). The words he uses and how he says it just heightens his rakish ways. Thoroughly seductive! I like it. Anyway, Damien's lifestyle will really make you understand why it was hard for him to accept his feelings for Vanessa. You will end up feeling sorry him instead of frustration (well, maybe a little frustration). He was confused because he has never paid much attention to LOVE. He snorts when that word is even mentioned. For him, love does not exist, let alone feeling it...

There is so many scenes in this book that i enjoyed. Aside from the H/H romance, Vanessa's friendship to the sweet-tempered Olivia is simply heart warming. Even the thoughtless Aubrey will warm your heart. Oh, i cried when Aubrey apologized and confessed to Olivia. Their love story is an added spice to this book. It's heart quenching! The powerful ending of this book is my favorite of all... What Damien did for absulotion... and when he realized that the person who he hated so much, Aubrey, is practically the mirror of himself. Overall, this book is stimulating, endearing and TOTALLY entertaining. A MUST READ.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good reading for hot Summer nights, January 18, 2001
This review is from: The Seduction (Mass Market Paperback)
The Seduction surprised me. I began this book with very low expectations. I read the reviews and thought that I would give this one a try. I am glad that I did. I will read Nicole Jordan again; I just don't consider her a favorite author. The story begins with a rake and an almost innocent. Damien (the rake) must go home and help his sister deal with the repercussions of a horrible accident. In doing so, he "engages" the help of Vanessa (the almost innocent). I found it hard to like Damien to begin with. He was shallow, and self absorbed, but it was a nice change to watch the hero develop an awareness of his own actions and how they affect others. Vanessa is down on her luck due to the careless actions of her late husband and older brother. She must become a companion by day and a mistress by night. The love scenes are wonderfully explicit and make up for what I consider the lack of development in the characters. I enjoyed reading the story, I was interested and entertained, but at the same time, when I finished the book, I was finished. I don't have any attachment to the people in this story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot, Steamy Regency, May 19, 2000
This review is from: The Seduction (Mass Market Paperback)
This is my first book by Nicole Jordan and I was highlyimpressed with this um... shall I say hot and steamy novel.

After anunhappy marriage, beautiful widow Lady Vanessa Wyndham expected to live a quiet life. But her brother changed all that. After ruining a young innocent girl and causing a paralyzing accident Vanessa must barter with the the young woman's angry brother.

Intent on ruining the young man who ruined his sister's life, Lord Sinclair wins the young man's entire inheritence in a card came. It is up to Vanessa to convince him to change his mind. She must barter with her body.

After agreeing to be Damien's mistress for an entire summer Vanessa goes to Rosewood, the Sinclair estate, to do her so called duties. What she doesn't expect is to fall in love with 'Lord Sin'.

Nicole Jordan has written a good regency that will bring the reader coming back for me. The secondary romance was delightful and I look forward to reading more from Ms. Jordan. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed this story, September 20, 2000

This review is from: The Seduction (Mass Market Paperback)
Wow. This story really grabbed me. Damien is a great lead and Vanessa is his perfect foil. In most "reform the rake" books, the hero seems to mend his ways quickly and just can't help falling in love with our heroine. Ms. Jordan, it seems to me, writes a much more realistic or at least believable reform story. Damien goes down kicking and screaming all the way, never quite understanding his feelings for Vanessa (until the end). Damaged by his parents' horrific marriage and his father's obsession for his mistress, Damien has absolutely no desire to have a relationship with a woman beyond a quick affair. (He even ignores his sister). Damien's lived a pretty debauched life (as shown in the first few pages of the story) and makes no apology for it. He is not really looking for a mistress, but Vanessa and circumstances involving plans of revenge fall in his lap, so he takes advantage of them.

As happens in reality, Damien draws too close to Vanessa and pulls away, not understanding his feelings. He just assumes that he is becoming obsessed like his father, and hates himself for this. Vanessa, on the other hand is unusually pragmatic for a romance heroine. She will agree to just about anything to save her family. She had a disastrous first marriage and in no way wants to marry, or force her sisters to marry, for anything less than love. Throughout the whole story, we never see Vanessa feel sorry for herself or give in to self-pity for the circumstances she finds herself in. Although we, as the reader, know her heart is engaged in this affair (and she finally admits this to herself), Vanessa knows that Damien is not looking for a serious relationship. Not bemoaning her fate, she sets out practically to ensure for her future once her tenure with Damien is over.

The whole plot and way it was written just seems like a breath of fresh air to me. This might seem unbelievable since there have been many, many books written along this same theme (the most recent that I can think of is Barbara Dawson Smith's, Seduced By A Scoundrel , which I did not like at all). There is no doubt that this is a HOT book, with many fairly explicit love scenes, (it is called The Seduction after all), though I did not feel that it was quite so far out there as say a Susan Johnson, Beatrice Small or Robin Schone novel.

This review is from: The Seduction (Mass Market Paperback)
This book has some of the most sensual love scenes I have read in a while. Sensual, yet tasteful, not skanky.

Vanessa is the heroine who wants to save her brother from Damien, who wants revenge for his sister's misfortunes at the hand of Vanesss's brother.

He will forgive her brother if Vanessa becomes his mistress, she wants him to teach her the finer arts of love. Not what I would say TERRIBLY original premise (the dissolute rake who falls in love despite himself; the proper woman whose sensuality is awakened) but the characters are nice to get to know, and let's face it, a well done love scene is a beauty to behold.
