Book Description

January 2000
Americans fiercely defend the right to privacy, yet we open our homes, our lives, and our minds to a constant barrage of messages from television and film. This book helps us analyze the impact of these media on us and our children.

Billingsley takes us inside the Hollywood mindset that produces today's popular films and television programs. He shows that just a small group of people virtually controls their content. Far more liberal than the general public, these media managers promote an outlook critical of the United States, religion, morality, and traditional values. Billingsley asserts that modern film has had a devastating impact on the human imagination and on society as a whole. He offers guidelines we can use to critique what we see and hear and thus be able to interact creatively with these powerful media.

This review is from: The Seductive Image (Paperback)
A delightful history of the cinema as well as a critique of the medium from the heterodox perspective of the writer. K. Lloyd Billingsley is a member of the Writers Guild of America, has had two teleplays produced, and brings a decidedly Christian worldview to bear on the world of film. For better or worse, cinema has shaped this century in many ways and no one segment of that community escapes the author's sobering pen. To quote Michael Medved about The Seductive Image: "A witty, perceptive look at Hollywood's handling of religious themes, Lloyd Billingsley's book is indispensable for all who want to think -- and speak-- seriously about movies."
