5.0 out of 5 stars Ms. Devine Does It Again

5.0 out of 5 stars Ms. Devine Does It Again, February 20, 2001
This review is from: Seductive (Paperback)
Nobody pens an alpha male quite like Thea Devine. Dark, brooding, mysterious, always in control, forever a step ahead of everybody else...the type of man most women couldn't stomach involving themselves with in real life, but love to dabble with in the realm of fantasy. Devine's latest release is an alpha male fantasy extraordinaire. When Thea is hot, she's very very hot, and her latest book Seductive is burning.

At the age of seventeen, Elizabeth Massey became the bride of the older and impotent Earl of Shenstone. She endured a loveless marriage for seven agonizingly long years until he died one night of a heart attack while trying to get her with child.

During her marriage, Elizabeth hadn't been faithful to her husband. Instead, she entered into an affair with Peter Romanov, a Russian royal who dissolved their liaison when he was ordered to do so by his family. But now Elizabeth is an heiress in control of her dead husband's vast fortune and suddenly she has the chance to get reacquainted with her old flame. She thinks everything is finally beginning to go her way until a letter from a solicitor arrives informing her that her deceased husband's nephew has been located and all of the money she thought was hers will revert to Nicholas' control.

Nicholas Massey dreams of only one thing: revenge. He swore to his mother on her deathbed that he would claim the title and lands, thereby avenging his father who had been disowned by the former earl. He had planned for every contingency before returning to England to make his mark, but he hadn't planned on the instant and primal attraction he possesses for Elizabeth, his dead uncle's widow.

Elizabeth fancies herself in love with Peter, but Nicholas doesn't let that knowledge dissuade him from seducing the countess into his bed. The only problem for the new earl is that once he has her where he wants her, he doesn't want to let her go...

There are many aspects of this novel that make Seductive a must-read, Devine's trademark scorching hot love scenes among them. How erotic is this erotic romance you might ask? On a scale of one to ten, I'd rate it an eleven.

Another attribute this book has going for it is a strong and well developed cast of characters. From the fallible yet lovable Elizabeth to the enigmatic and darkly sexy Nicholas (and all of the secondary characters in between), each one of them contributes to creating a page turner of a story.

If you're a Devine fan you don't want to miss this one, as Seductive is destined to be remembered as one of her most powerful novels to date. Though not as dark as her usual erotic offerings, the novel is gothic enough to please longtime followers and mainstream enough to tempt new devotees her way.

Get out your fans ladies: the Queen of Erotic Romance is once again holding court.

Thea Devine's style of narration is getting harrowing and despite the steamy eroticism glossing up the pages between two impassioned characters - Elizabeth and Nicholas, one couldn't help feeling the plot is convoluted and jumbled up. Her abundant use of italics sabotaged the plot rather than enhanced it; Elizabeth as a widowed countess is forced to secure her wealth and subjugate to Micholas, one who is to claim his estate after the demise of her husband - with an arson and murder attempts - she finds out that it is the jewels of the Empress that somebody is after.

The pearls are used as an instrument for their ...and through out the book, the sex gradually loses its captivation without any emotions. The mystery is appalling and Thea Devine rambles on only to find that the twist is much too predictible.SEDUCTIVE coming from a erotica writer as vintage as Thea Devine, comes out disappointing and not so devine after all.

4.0 out of 5 stars For fans of erotica romance, March 30, 2001
This review is from: Seductive (Paperback)
She loved Peter, but he was too blueblooded for her. Elizabeth married an aging bull, Earl William Massey so she can go where royalty traveled. William wanted an heir, but seven unloving years later he died without ever obtaining a son. Elizabeth prays that now she is good enough to be a wife to Peter.

Nicholas Massey learns that his deceased father was actually brother to an Earl and that he inherited Shenstone. Nicholas informs Elizabeth that she is a penniless widow, who can stay if she has sex with him. He promises that as a by-product she will be able to seduce her Peter. As they make love in every nick and cranny, they begin to fall in love, but that does not stop Elizabeth from stealing kisses with Peter nor search for evidence to prove Nicholas is not the heir. Meanwhile Nicholas worries that a killer, perhaps Elizabeth, wants him dead.

SEDUCTIVE tries to satisfy too many diverse readers, as the tale never decides between what it wants to be: an erotic romance or a historical romantic suspense. The story line is fast-paced, but overwhelmed with too many subplots. Readers will feel a mixed bag towards Elizabeth, but admire Nicholas, a hunk, who belongs in the Olympics or Guinness for his ability to make love in the weirdest of locations. Thea Devine is a talented author, but her latest tale is not quite the divine novel expected from her.

3.0 out of 5 stars Erotic, but choppy romantic mystery., July 7, 2001
This review is from: Seductive (Paperback)
Elizabeth Massey had deliberately married William Massey, the Earl of Shenstone, to gain entry into the rarefied circle of society where royalty moved. Now, as his widow of the Earl of Shenstone, she was about to fulfill all her dreams. There was only one problem, and his name was Nicholas Massey, the long lost son of her husband's brother, the heir apparent to the estate and all it entailed. Elizabeth was desperate to hold onto the estate and was willing to do anything to see that she kept it. To top it off, her royal prince with whom she was desperately in love, had finally returned to her, and she needed to be able to seduce him so thoroughly he would never dream of leaving her again. Nicholas Massey desperately needed to claim his home, but he had to solve the problem of the multiple murders and the lovely Elizabeth. Ms. Devine has written a highly erotic, albeit choppy, romantic mystery. This is not an easy feat to accomplish, but Ms. Devine has done an admirable job. The plots and sub-plots get a little convoluted, but the overall eroticism is a definite turn-on.

3.0 out of 5 stars what happen to strong women, July 18, 2001
This review is from: Seductive (Paperback)
Here you have a young lady Elizabeth who marries an older man, and all he really wanted was a brood mare to have an heir. Then he ups and dies seven years later, and having no heir to his name.

Elizabeth falls for Peter hoping he will marry her now that her husband is dead. Not so, Elizabeth's dead husbands nephew has come to claim what is rightfully his. Oh, he has come to claim one more thing, Elizabeth herself.

I seem to have a problem with Nicholas. Claiming his inheritance is one thing, but telling Elizabeth that she can stay at Shenstone only if she please him anytime he wants and anywhere he wants. That was a little much. I also found Peter to be a weakling. He showed no back bone at all. It seems all he cared about was how Elizabeth could please him. Her father was the worse of them all. He cared about how much money his daughter was allowed a month instead of how his daughter was going to servive if she was asked to leave.

I found SEDUCTIVE okay reading, but it lacked real emotion from any of the characters. The herione showed very little back bone toward any of the men. I like a women who has strength, courage, and be able to tell a man where to go once in a while. The hero was just a little too forceful to me. I like a man to take charge, but not to much charge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy sexy, August 9, 2001
This review is from: Seductive (Paperback)
This is not for the faint at heart. Please take note. Erotic fiction is not the same as an average romance novel. If you are looking for an indepth character development and plot, look elsewhere.

I enjoyed this book tremendously. I do have to point out that the focal point of this book is sex. And a lot of it. You might not find yourself in the "mood" to read this all the time. Too overwhelming. But give yourself the right frame of mind to relax and enjoy, using this book as a fantasy flight.

I think the two main characters have a wonderful chemistry and it works throughout the whole book-boy does it work. So take this as a warning, but please...enjoy.

In SEDUCTIVE, Thea Devine does the hot, steamy sexual scenes again!!! No one write better or more descriptive erotica.

Elizabeth Massey, childless and recently widowed of William, Earl of Shenstone, wants to settle down on her estate, enjoy a quiet life, and possibly reconnect with her old love, Peter.

Nicholas Massey, nephew of William, is the only legitimate male heir to Shenstone, and he means to have it along with the beautiful Elizabeth, at any cost, among them blackmail, if necessary.

However, along with their highly charged relationship, there is too much deception and too many secrets on both sides, any combination of which could be fatal.

This is a good book with several different story lines going on. It has lots of very descriptive erotica. I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thea Devine is the best!, April 4, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Seductive (Paperback)
Seductive is a very sexy read with a plot. Most erotic romance from some authors are just plain sex without a plot, and oftentimes very boring. Seductive doesn't concentrate on the sex scenes. There is character development and the two main characters are likeable. The sex is not gratuitous and it doesn't push my ick buttons. The hero and heroine doesn't fall in love with each other right away but i still got the feeling that they will make each other happy and will spend the rest of their lives together. I like Seductive better than Susan Johnson's Tempting. It may be 3 dollars cheaper than Tempting but it's a lot better.

4.0 out of 5 stars A different kind of book for me - but still very good!, October 4, 2004
By
This review is from: Seductive (Paperback)
Elizabeth Massey has been wed seven long miserable years to a much older impotent man, William Massey the Earl of Shenstone. One night while trying again to impregnate Elizabeth, William dies from a heart attack. Perhaps now Elizabeth might finally be able to have a future with Peter Romanov, a Russian who was forced by his family to end their attraction years before.

Before she can take over her dead husbands estate his nephew Nicholas Massey arrives claiming this to be his rightful heir. If Elizabeth wants to remain at Shenstone she may, but only if she agrees to sleep with Nicholas. Even though Elizabeth believes she still is in love with Peter she agrees to Nicholas's advances. Typical of a Devine book the seductive scenes between Elizabeth and Nicholas set the pages on fire.

An electrifying hot book with the alpha male Nicholas fully in control. While I found Thea's characters a little more harsh and not so easy to get a handle on, I still found myself unable to put this book down. The mysterious plot and the way it was written made for a very intense and compelling story. The sexual tension between Nicholas and Elizabeth and the odd mixture of secondary characters just made this an interesting book throughout. I will probably read more of Thea's books because they are a little different and I like a good erotic read with a compelling plot!

Four solid stars for me!

I still like Sinful Secretss when it comes to SEXY scenes. The plot of this book is similar to Thea Devine's collection. The woman is estranged, and the man wants her with a twinge of suspense.
Buy Sinful Secrets if you like it raw and hot.
