5.0 out of 5 stars Djavan at his best
Djavan is one of my favorites, and this is one of his best. From "Pedro Brasil" (about the discoverer of Brasil, Pedro Cabral) to the haunting "Faltando um Pedaço" to "Nvula Leza Kia/Humbiumbi", his African-style duet with Gilberto Gil, this album is a classic, and to me the best period of Djavan's music.

3.0 out of 5 stars old school still comes through
This album was purchased primarily for Pedro Brasil, the first track on the album, which I love. The other songs are collateral benefits. However, I can appreciate where he was coming from, especially around this time period, when all artists, incl. US artists, were...

5.0 out of 5 stars A colorfull taste of brazilian music., November 17, 1998

Djavan is a poet and songwriter. His style is a very singular one. Each album has a different approach, and even so, or becuse of it, he is in continuous evolution. This album is one of his best. The listener will note a delicate mix between african, northern brazilian regional and jazzistic approach, which gives to his music a sweet cosmopolitan appeal.

After hearing Djavan's work since this album (Live CD's, others), this album can lose my attention. However, I can appreciate where he was coming from, especially around this time period, when all artists, incl. US artists, were tampering with electronic sound in ways not fully explored. Music, in general, has come a long way since this era, but albums like these remind me of the mix of raw talent, lots of effort, and the willingness to explore new horizons.

Beautiful music. Call up your significant other and have a glass of wine with this one. I just bought Bird of Paradise...I recommend that album as well.
