Book Description

July 1, 2001
The American sculptor, painter, draftsman, and printmaker H.C. Westermann (1922-1981) was a central figure in American art, lauded as an American original who steadfastly followed his own finely crafted and keenly ironic sensibilities. Published in conjunction with the David and Alfred Smart Museum's "See America First" exhibit, this book presents the first comprehensive, scholarly consideration of Westermann's graphic work and serves as a catalogue raisonné of his prints: 100 large-format color images and 20 black and white illustrations are accompanied by detailed entries containing key historical information on Westermann's art. Critic, curator, and art historian Dennis Adrian contributes an overview essay examining Westermann's body of work.

"See America First" will be exhibited at the David and Alfred Smart Museum of Art from June 30 to September 23, 2001.

4.0 out of 5 stars Westermann as a Printmaker, September 9, 2001
By
This review is from: "See America First": The Prints of H.C. Westermann (Paperback)
H.C. westermann is known for his art objects usually made out of wood. This book presents Westermann the Printmaker. Westermann started working in linocut and woodcut and progressed to lithographs. His first prints were crude almost child like prints of everyday objects. His subject matter is what you know most - objects of everyday use. His later work is more elaborate and he added landscape and figure into his repertoire. The book is well done and conveys quite well the artist's intent. If you already have H.C. Westermann's book of his art objects this is a must. This book is also well suited for wannabe printmakers and artists of all ages.

This review is from: "See America First": The Prints of H.C. Westermann (Paperback)
The item was shipped very quick and well protected. It looked in very good conditions but after three four openings, some pages and the cover began to break. Otherwise, it's a very great book of Westermann's prints!
